My D'Amico "Studio" Kit

Hey All - I'm fairly new to the forum and thought I'd share my babies with you. Gene D'Amico built this kit for me back in 1999 and it's simply beautiful. 20+ layers of paint went into this finish. I've since retired it for studio work because I'm so paranoid about blemishing the lacquer. I also have one of Gene's kits in a natural oil that I use live that's a little better for wear. Here are the specs:

Midnight Red Kit
19x22 Kick (placed on D'Amico Cradle)
8x10 Tom (not shown)
10x12 Tom
12x14 Tom
14x16 Tom

Snare Drums
7x13 Maple (Red Lacquer)
7x14 Maple (Natural/Champagne Sparkle Lacquer)
5x12 Maple (Natural Oil)
5.5x14 Carbon Steel
5x14 60's Ludwig Acrolite

Hey Felipe.. I love your kit bro ! One of the few guys who has his own lug ! Very pretty finish too !!!

Welcome, As a lifelong New Englander I am very familiar with D'Amico New England maple shell drums.
They are works of art!

great looking tubs. I remember seeing D'Amico drums advertised in Modern Drummer in the early 90's (?) as being one of the first "custom" companies that really gave the big boys a shot. Good to see they're still in business and doing well.

Thanks!

Yeah, Gene acquired the tooling and patents from Solid when they went under which allowed him to move forward with that. One of the great things about those are the built in tension rod locks, which in the 15+ years since I got my first of the two kits, I have NEVER had a tension rod back out. It's the little things, you know?

Pictures don't really do the finish justice. It is absolutely gorgeous and in person really shows depth. I'd never seen anything even close to it until recently, I saw someone's pics on DW with a Pearl Masterworks kit with a similar finish in blue.
