Hey guys, I was at Artpark last night for a Deep Purple concert. I have never seen them before and last night really opened my eyes to Ian Paice. this guy is a phenom and, at 67 years old, is showing no signs of slowing down. He played tremendously.........

And I need to get me one of those snare drums he was using. Sounded incredible.

Ian Paice was an early influence on me too. He was so clean....really polished compared to other drummers I thought. His playing stood out in a way that was due to his touch, what a great sound he had/has. Great smooth singles.

I still remember hearing Deep Purple in the 1970's. I loved the way he combined driving rock beats with silky jazzy fills.
He was the first drummer that I copied stuff from!
Still great today.

His signature snare is great, it's a 402 at half the price.

But the 402 was his snare of choice for years before he went to Pearl. He did use a 400 in the late 60s/early 70s when he used his Black Oyster Ludwig which was stunning, best kit he's played.

He is my favorite English drummer from the 70s. To me he is much better than that other English drummer from the 70s who seems to be revered. Peace and goodwill.

I wouldn't go quite that far with "much better" because Simon Phillips Cozy Powell etc. were very fine drummers too, and could onto drummers such as Bonham and Barrie Barlow and some others... Speaking from a more rock perspective anyway. jmo

True that. People sing Bonham's praises, and while Bonham was great, Paice was better in every way. And Purple is a better band than Zeppelin.

He's my personal favorite drummer. I look at him as a further evolution of Mitch Mitchell. His fills are on point, precise, and musical as shit. And he can groove like no other. You Fool No One has a great paradiddle cowbell groove that makes all other cowbell songs cry.

Ian is rock drumming royalty for sure.

I bought "In Rock" on cassette tape when I was 12 and was mesmerized by Ian Paices drumming on "Flight of the Rat"; and I think listening over and over and "trying" to play along, having that in mind, changed how I play today.

He had and has great time and feel and is very humble about it.

I loved DP forever and think Ian is amazing. but favorite british drummer will be Bill Ward forever...

Great jazzy fills, big, extremely tight grooves, just a great rock drummer. Machine Head will always be one of my favorite classic rock albums.

I grew up on Deep Purple. They are playing at a casino near me soon. I didn't think he was with them now. I better check it out. He is truly one of the greats. I bet that I was about 13 when I bought the Made In Japan album.

I saw Deep Purple in the mid 90's. Excellent show.

I knew Ian Paice was a good drummer, but seeing him live really took my appreciation of him to a new level.

I always liked music from Deep Purple.

I have been away from drumming for a long time. I just did a Goggle and YouTube search on Ian Paice.
He can't be a very good drummer because his drum set is set up all backwards and everything.
And who would ever want to buy one of his signature snare drums? I can't play a left handed snare drum.

LOL (Yeah I just re-discovered him. He is one of my favorites, thanks)

.

I first got turned on to them when one of my buddies gave the Deep Purple album 8 track in 69'. Chasing Shadows just blew me away. Still does to date.

I couldn't wait just to play the double paraddidles to the tune.

Just listen to the Burn album. His single stroke rolls are out of sight....smoooooth man.

A rudimental guy paving his way to stardom.
