Reni himself with isolated drums on 'Love Speads': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iePKcrATSA

Jojo Mayer on 'Far': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0apbeC8Gz8

Finally, I took my Grade 3 exam a few months ago, and this guy does a great version of one the pieces I chose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3W7njeeRKs

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do :D

I love YouTube's recommendations when you arrive on the site. Tonight one of the recco's was Mahavishnu's Vital Transformation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAU5o246VSA.

Mind boggling music. There are lots of great drummers out there but no one knocks me out the way Billy Cobham does. Ever since I bought Birds of Fire in the mid 70s he's been my go to guy when I'm in the mood for the ultimate drumming buzz.

Don't have a clue what he's playing half the time but it sounds incredible. Which drummers leave you in that "whoa!" space?

Please provide links when you post. It's Christmas and a drumming feast is in order :)

i think i could play this with time. gimme a year.

a lot of fusion is so fast that i can´t hear what´s going on. but this one i can distinguish.

this guy:

Marky Ramone

on Drum Technique (wait for it)

Marky Ramone will give you a heart attack...if you can even keep up. i should have known that he had more going on than punk. his early band Dust was like Metal with Funk drumming. early 70´s. amazing.

believe it or don´t...Ramones songs actually got FASTER as the decades went by.

check out Blitzkreig Bop or She´s The One or Bad Brain from the 70´s then 80´s then 90´s.

he also has more technique than one would think.

She´s The One

that´s a single pedal, yall.

This is supposed to be sarcastic, right? Marky Ramone, on drum TECHNIQUE? Did you guys watch the video? I mean, I wish I didn't have to be bashy, but the guy says "They can't do this", WTH? There are drummers who can play twice as fast, with twice the technique for twice as long, sorry Marky. From which year was that? Because he plays this fill as if it was something tough, I'd love to see him cover *anything* remotely challenging.

Fox.

Fox.

he was referring to drummers who lookED down at his backbeat as nothing.

if you are referring to drummers who are influenced by him, you are probably right. remember...he INVENTED punk drumming...with an assist from Tommy Ramone. the next generations always take it further.

In the 70s I remember buying a Larry Coryell album, putting it on and being confronted by this madness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXa5PAz6dxc ... Al Mouzon on drums.

I was very happy :)

Liked the Ramone link, UnFunky. I never realised he was such a strong player. Bill Ward link was cool too - he tears it up in that brief snippet of Rat Salad at the end. The 2nd Dicenso link was smoking too.

To me, the ultimate rock drummer, & as near as you'll get to a complete drummer, IMHO. The all time master of dynamic, reserve & control. Check out this lesser known clip.

Not the best sound, but just eat up that dynamic & single kick drum placement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtJ-TgUlwwE&feature=related

Groove, syncapation, accuracy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtjKWsu9kEo&feature=related

A different side to Simon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtjKWsu9kEo&feature=related

A young Simon having fun with Louis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuYj7KjyJg0

& who can forget his contribution to the Toto story:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keOylXMoZ2k&playnext=1&list=PL40E51FDCA0709ABF&index=28
KIS..You hit the nail on the head...For me Simon was always my MAIN drummer. Not just his skill, but the SOUND of his drums.Just Beautiful.....
