Hot Tub!

Just got her! Happy Birthday to me! 40 today and what a present!

I have dubbed her 'Tinnitus Maximus'. She's a Jarrah ply 8 by 14 with a Fiddled Marri top layer. The first ever in that configuration! I have examples of both trees growing in my backyard.

The neighbours are gonna be pissed!

Still dialing her in, but what a range! Nice and tight or loose and meaty, what to do? There's almost no wrong with her, but still wanna get my sound. What fun! Thanks all!

just curious whats a brady cost in Australia? over here they are about grand to 1200 (US$). wondered what it was in their home country.

It's about the same. Everything's more expensive here in Oz, from food to fuel. I paid about 12 bones for this baby...and only because I know the drum shop I went thru to get it. I buy all my stuff thru them. They would have put this out on the floor for about $1400-1500. Especially as it is one of a kind.

That is one nice snare! When I had a 14x8 snare, I liked to tune it high. The sound still had lots of body due to the deep shell. Enjoy!

So I've had a couple of weeks to dial this mother in and am very pleased. Although she may not be as loud as she appears, the character and body of this drum is like nothing I've ever played before. I have her what I would call a medium-high tuning on the batter and a high tuning on the reso. I've fooled with all sorts of variations, from ultra low to ultra high on both sides, and this where she speaks to me playing her.

I've also had to adjust my playing a bit as well...where in other drums I have enjoyed playing them a bit off the center of the head for the ring, this one just sings when played exact center. I've noticed that rimshots are amazingly contrasty...that is they are in a totally different league of volume compared to center head hits, and I find I use them a lot more sparingly, (which is a good thing). This drum has more voices than I've ever experienced before. Happy days!

It's a Leaky man so it's an archeological thread that is evolving. Wow 8 years ago I bet he still has the hot tub.
