My son is 2 years in to lessons. Doing very well.
He has a Gretsch Catalina Club kit with an added 10" mounted tom.
Looking to replace all the heads. He is in to rock and likes to play fast.
I am overwhelmed by all the choices of heads.

Give me some suggestions please.
Snare, 14", mounted toms, 10" and 12", floor tom, 16", bass, 22".
Thanks much,

The standard go to head setup for Rock and hard hitting is Remo Emperor over Remo Ambasador. Or, Evans G-2 over G-1.
Use a 2 ply head on top and a single ply head on the bottom. Head combos like these gives a big low end sound with a lot of sustain.
For the snare, either a single ply or a two ply coated head will do for a top head. It depends on the player.
Bass drum; Double ply or single ply head with built in muffling as batter. Evans emad, Aquarian Super Kick, Remo PS3 are good examples.

Thanks for the reply.

Do we need bottom heads? Are they important?
Thanks much!

Do you possibly mean the Ambassador, Bob? I reckon a 10mil reso is a far more common choice than the Diplomat.
Yes, sorry, I am tired tonight :) Yes i meant Ambasador instead of Diplomat for tom bottom. I corrected it in my first post.

Yes, bottom, or resonate heads play a big role in the drums sound.
