david king has more style and feel and technique then Blakey and a few other greats.
this music is the future of jazz, they are a head of their time but soon this will be a movement similar to the jazz movment in the 40's and 50's. The other band i put on here is part of the same movement but they def. have a different, Happy Apple is truly rock and jazz fused together.

Please let me know if you know of any other bands that are similar.

I love the Bad Plus. They are part of the new wave of Jazz. Similar groups would be Avishai Cohen, the bass player NOT trumpet player. Also Joshua Redman, his style is different but it is new and hip. Check out pianist Brad Meldhua, Eldar, and Taylor Eigsteen.

I also recommend checking out Corey Wilkes. Great trumpet player and doing some cool stuff with jazz and hip hop fusion.

Well... Ornette Coleman made an album called The Shape of Jazz to Come, so I think that answers it.

I hadn't heard about the Bad Plus before. Thank you for sharing! Great music. The drummer has some usable vocabulary. I'm going to steal some of it. =)

The music performed by Devo, The Doors was ahead of its time.

Thanks for posting this, that is some really great stuff, I've never heard of The Bad Plus before either but they really do it for me. I think I will investigate these guys a bit further thanks

The Bad Plus has moved me in ways that no other band has. Their live act is the best i've ever seen, nothing else seems to compare. I saw them at the vanguard front row and it was the most meaningful concert i've ever witnessed. They played this song called "people like you" that is unfortunately unreleased on any albums they have created and it was in my opinion their greatest piece of work.

i'll never stop seeing these guys.

another similar band is Marco Benevento Trio

incredible stuff:

no problem guys! i really enjoy them to, it gives me hope for the art of jazz, i believe that music repeats its self at the rate of a genre every 10 years, i believe that this decade will be similar to disco in the 80's just different, think of lady gaga and the hundreds of similar popular acts, jazz will hit hard again it will just be different. and the bad plus, in my opinion is the foundation for its return.

These guys are simply amazing......if this is where jazz is headed, I'm not complaining. the sound and tone of a kind of vaudville rock with jazz structure and avant gardeism!

Amazing, thanks for sharing!

just found out that the bad plus and brad mehldau ( with jeff ballard) were in my home town last october.....COME ON!

Nice links - the Bad Plus sound great.

The Laughing Clowns were an Aussie band back in the early 80s, lead by the talented Ed Kuepper - also rock and jazz fused together:

Have you listened to Bill Bruford's Earthworks or solo work??
