Building a Drum Riser from scratch

Looks nice but a few questions to ask yourself before you build one:
Weight???? Looks heavy
Compact??? Looks big
Height??? Looks a bit too tall.

That is great for the occasional gig, but if you planned on doing any steady gigging, you would soon after cut that thing into firewood. Building one that disassembles easily and weighs less is the key, and would cost ALOT more than $50. I built one years ago that I had on the road, it was still a pain in the ass, but it consisted of 16" sections of 2" fence posts drilled straight into 4X4 blocking which was attached to a re-inforced 1/2` plywood top which was cut out to match the contour of my kit. The posts were positioned in key weight bearing sections so the 1/2" plywood wouldn't flex. The legs came off and went in a box and the top was fairly light because I did not overkill and use 3/4" plywood. But eventually that too became a pain in the nuts and ended up in some dumpster behind a bar.
