Great thread. If someone can make an older basic kit sound superb then i think it is even more of a credit to them as a great drummer.

You seem to have done a good job, reminds me of my drum teacher. When he lived in Poland as a young boy he had a crappy drum set, he went to Germany to get a top notch Sonor drum kit and had to shipped to Australia. One time he came to a drum lesson with a double pedal that was like two different double bass pedals put together, very resourceful, he uses all kinds of DIY solutions for his drum kit (should be called drum city, crowded with second hand parts).
Just a question: How did you construct that double pedal?

Hello friend first thank you for all your words, answering to your question this was really along process. I started to take all the original measurements of a Yamaha but I don’t remember the model , i received the help of a friend who is architect, he knows very well how to do technical drawings and that help me a lot , also i downloaded from internet a lot of patents who describe parts of the drum pedal but no measurements, just the parts , so when all the work was done i started to find who can do all this work .It was really difficult to find this person but it , my pedals was build in 2003 I mean is really used , they were made from a material that calls calamine , it’s a really handy material for made castings , so after finding all the materials and the bearings , the man how do the work started to make the molds to the pedals parts. After doing the entire forge, including the 2 pedal footboards, started a process of polish the parts because the molds was not doing very precise shape. The original pedals was chain drive but I made it with a belt drive because was easier to find it , the springs was taken and I have to use a lot because it breaks often) from a bicycle seat . All of this took about 2 months , but later I faced some problems with it , like the springs , the footboards , some parts of the structure of the pedal , those parts are broken ,with cracks that later I will ask for a camera and post some pictures of it , I think that is because the material .I already have to solder the price who attach the pedal to the bass drum because was broken on last September , although these pats are broken the pedal is still functioning , its not like original one but I tried very hard to play with it and I feel satisfied with my work , but no really with my pedal , I mean I have played with pearl doubles and its amazing!!!!!!.... I think if I can do my stuff with my hand made pedals I can feel much better with original ones. I hope that this answer your question , if you have any doubt just write me .

This thread is inspiring on so many levels. On this forum I have learnt so much about playing the drums, but this thread teaches something about life. Thank you for sharing this with us.
