Default e-drum news @ NAMM-14

After searching for electronic drum related news at NAMM, I thought it would be worth having a separate thread here for any edrum updates from those who get to check out the latest gear at the show.
Are there any impressive new products that stand out, like the KAT Pro kits with Addictive drums built in?

I'm also interested in midi/multipad controllers and software like some of these at Synthtopia: http://www.synthtopia.com/content/ca...i-controllers/

If you want a playing surface with plenty of pads (like 48) in a compact device (26x26x32cm) check this out: http://www.alphasphere.com/nexus-series/
and for the reference manual: http://alphasphere.com/wp-content/up...al-English.pdf
Maybe a 'flatter' version with less pads would be more playable.

Here's a useful site that gives a good coverage of what's new in e-drums at NAMM: http://www.hellfiredrums.com/page/2/ It's an excellent resource for e-drum gear and DIY kits.

I could only find this Yamaha news update about any of their recent DTX series releases: http://usa.yamaha.com/news_events/dr...nic_drum_sets/

Roland has a new little module. It only takes 2 stereo or 4 mono trigger inputs.
It is perfect for the working drummer who just needs to trigger kick and snare, or just a few pads, without needing to buy a whole big e-drum set up.

And best part is you can load your own .wav files into it, on top of it's internal sounds.

I'll upload a pic later.

I'll throw my hat in the ring- if ANYONE has any NAMM related info/updates on Aquarian/Miditronix FSR inHEAD or onHEAD systems (not that I'm holding my breath)!

Thanks for flagging the Aquarian/Miditronix FSR inHEAD & onHEAD systems as I want to convert my acoustic snare drum.
Here's a pitch from Aquarian’s Jamie Harris: http://www.moderndrummer.com/site/20.../#.UuWJJ7R9LtQ
For anyone else interested here's some more info: http://www.alternatemode.com/inhead.shtml http://www.alternatemode.com/onhead.shtml

Cheers for the links (I hadn't seen that modern drummer one as yet).
Let us know how you go with your conversion (I assume you're going with the inHead snare)?
If they ever make these things in mesh (and they play as well as they say) I'm so there...

With NAMM-14 done and dusted, I'm wondering what new e-drum products stood out and would be worth trying when available.
Some that caught my attention are:
* Alesis SamplePad Pro & Sample Rack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cbVZZ05giM
- if the 20 User kits/sounds can be played directly from a SD card (32GB max) then I want one (@299$US). Also with an Aux input it should be easy to chain them together.
* ddrum DD5x edrum kit (+mesh heads): http://www.hellfiredrums.com/ddrum-d...set/#more-1653
* KAT Pro kit (+Adam & Eve combo) & KAT Multipad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMucugu39mc
* Aquarian inHead & onHead PED: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veFtYaL3mLA
* Roland TM-2 Trigger Module: http://www.rolandus.com/products/det.../487/features/
* Aerodrums software package: http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2014/...e-to-see-this/

Also here are some other interesting products:
* DW (Drum Workshop) hardware: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElAyygu-hJc
* Ludwig hardware: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xhe53LBsM0
* Arturia Beatstep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN_zj7Sb41U http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/...tep/media.html
* Elektron Analog Rytm Drum Machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3rnrgvJOEg
* Izotope Break Tweaker: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/breaktweaker/
* Korg Gadget iPad app: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luc-Kve4UtI http://www.djtechtools.com/2014/01/3...chines-in-one/

Feel free to add any others I've missed that are worth checking out.

Hello, we released MIDI output in Aerodrums a little while back. So it's now a fully fledged e-drum kit.

Wow, taking air drumming to the next level alright.
Very cool for drummers who don't have any room for a kit. I can see how it works but my main issue with it (apart from the absence of an actual kit to look at/ drool over) is the bass drum pedals (ie is it possible to do heel toe with this setup)?

Han- thanks for the liks again. Super excited about the Kat pro kit (first FSR system e-kit on the market as far as I know)?
And that module sounds awesome (running VST's/ addictive drums without a laptop? That's crazy talk in Roland land at the moment).
If this kit does half of what they claim I'll be doing everything I can to get my hands on one. Can't wait to see some independent reviews!

Thanks, it's also useful if you do have space for a kit but can't always solve the neighbors issue;)

At the moment we only have a video about stick rebound, we are working on one about the pedals. The system is definitely capable of tracking very fast and subtle foot motions like in heel-toe.

Hey Todd - There's a lot to like about the KAT Pro kit (with Adam & Eve combo) including it's 32GB Solid state drive which I assume could be expanded to 250GB or more - that would provide plenty of acoustic sounding kits to satisfy most drummers.
Korg's Kronos keyboard uses a SSD and here's some info about adding a larger size drive: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpb...light=ssd+size

Ok but last time you checked, did you still have to hit plastic things or could you air-drum into a good sampler?

e-drums sucks, it never feels like a real drum. I have a Roland TD-12 but I gave up and just tried to find a studio to play acoustic drums because other than that it's counterproductive.

E-drums maybe aren't right for you folks, but that doesn't mean they "suck" (which, I'll take this opportunity to point out, is homophobic language).

E-drums have tons of use and application in spaces where the volume of an acoustic set is too loud or wouldn't sound super great. As someone who plays a Roland in a church band, they feel real enough (aside from the rebound) and the ability to actually get into the songs instead of focusing on keeping my volume down vastly improves my experience & my output. Plus, if I have any problems with the sounds (or need a new effect), I can change them in a couple of seconds.

Can you imagine the outcry if we commented on the "suckability" of acoustic drums??
Thankfully e-drummers are of no consequence (on this particular forum) so people can make whatever narrow-minded assessments they like without fear of reprisal.

Excuse my frivolity guys with the 'industrial grade' drum set but I can't be bothered trying to justify why I prefer to play e-drums.

I like having a broad range of digitally sampled acoustic drum kits to select from and play without having to consider who I might be disturbing.

Haha, man- acoustic drums are so loud and hard to move around. Tuning is hard! Why are there so many pieces??? /s

that alesis samplepad pro has peeked my interest.

I've always been wanting one of the dm series ekits, especially since you can buy the upgraded versions with mesh heads very easily aswell nowadays.

Roland TM2 is already on my buy list. been wanting something like this to just load my kickdrum sample in for live. Only need to find a suitable trigger for it now.

Assuming you're the Beater-tester, when can we expect to read your review of the FSR heads? As they'll be included on the new KAT Pro kits I'm interested to get your opinion.

I'd like to know if the ADAM sound module will function OK with standard piezo triggers - it may be possible if the EVE trigger interface is similar to Alternate Mode's DITI: http://www.alternatemode.com/DITI/

I'm currently considering them for my next major purchase, along with the 2box Drumit 5 and Alesis DM10X Mesh kits.
