Wow, just wow! IMHO, that's one of the best examples of killer live grooving & vibe ever posted on this forum! This video should be viewed by every gigging drummer, & held up as a benchmark of groove, drive, flavour, & dynamics. Absolutely blown away by this, & the band is fantastic too. This is the sort of band I dream of stumbling across if I walk into a bar. If I was at that gig, I'd be dancing on the tables.

Stunning - really, & a well deserved 5 DW forum stars from me :)

Yes, a great band makes our job so much easier & enjoyable :) I'm sure they'd say the same about you though. I was very impressed with your drive & flavours on the ride :) Nice "licks" video too BTW!

I'm so glad I watched that clip. All too often, I forget to have fun. This has reminded me what it's all about. Thank you!

Did you watch Micael's gig clip in his first post Mage? Now that's what driving a band is all about :)

Thank you!

We must never forget why we play drums. Because its fun and its important to just fool around on the kit. Ofcourse we need to pay our dues to the drums like paradiddles, singlestrokes, dubbles, open roll, closed roll, timing, tone, dynamics, styles and so on.

I love my drums and i love to play and still i get better and better. Learning new stuff is a treat.

Yes, Andy, and it made me think of everything you've been telling me since I joined DW!

This is one of those threads I'm going to keep coming back to. You speak wise words, Micael.

Mag

The way to everything is not the speed or complex stuff with ostinatos and crazy stuff against it. That kind of licks and way to play is cool. Theres a big BUT! that dosent mean a crap if your not have some stuff down. Everything have to be kind of even. Why i say of kind even is because every style and time genre have their own feel. if you lissen to funk you can compare the 70:s funk to the 80:s funk playing... lots of machines and it supose to sound that way. both is rigth if it grooves. to identify how to groove with other and do the same lick with different feel. Eveness does allso do things sound lot more complicadet than is is.

check this out!
I hope this sound even and the lick is pretty easy. the hard part was get more speed and motion over the drums.
Its a vinnie colaiuta lick.
RLLRRL RLRLRL
Two sets of sixtuplets

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jKxAfA-kRg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXGnbQSro44

here its double paradiddles and stuff i try to get even... its not so fast but when i hit cybals and stuff it start to come alive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXGnbQSro44

here its a lick i struggled with.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYlLHOwiSdA

Sometime i take the same sticking but i change the rate of it, instead ofr 16:th i do triplets.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAK7rs1h2V0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzrkGmH6zCE

in this case i realy changed the time feel. in some exampes i took and did it very polyrythmic stuff like 9 against 6 .... this is to no use beside to challenge your self.. and i was bored this day.

I think its more important to re use stuff you already know and then put it different situations.
On this video from 2 min you find the pulse in the hi hat. 3 against 2 the rock beat i play is not the downbeat where you think it is... the ryhtm is 3 but it souns like 4...in a musical context this will sound kind of weird if you play a popsong. anyway. everything is taking control, thats why i show you this kind of stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oASZzESNu0c

i use old paradiddles and grooves and make new thing out of it..

hope this make any sense...

Micael, thank you very much for taking the trouble to post those links. They were good to watch, and they illustrated everything you said perfectly :)

I totally agree with Keep it simple's first post. What a great example of what a drummers job is, and catching it on camera in a live setting for drummers like me to enjoy. I very much enjoyed that video! Well done.

I totally agree with Andy's first post, other than he should stay off the tables, he'll only hurt himself.

Micael, that is some serious playing mate, totally right for the songs and totally on the money. Respect!
