Show Off your SONOR DRUMS.

Yes, the rocket launcher is the extremely heavy duty tom mount. It uses a plate on the bass drum that mounts on the lugs with no hole through the bass drum.

Very cool I guess it folds down into the groove along the top,or does it slide that way as well to bring the tom closer or further away

Even though my little Bop Kit doesn't quite stack up to the SQ2's on here.. Since I've re-cut the bearing edges (slightly rounder on the top, slightly sharper on the reso), coated the interior with Tung Oil, and put some single-flange wood hoops on the kit, it has really come to life!

While this will never be my dream kit, it definitely will keep me happy along the way.

(Sorry for the phone quality pics)

Nice to see so much Safari love ...

Mine is sort of a Safari plus configuration, with the addition of a Pearl 13x5 Omar Hakim snare and a Pearl 10x4 maple snare on the side.

"Running coated reso heads I see! Looks pretty good :)"

Yeah with Fiberskyns on top ... going for an old school phat sound with a small kit ... it works well ... thanks :)

Hi there...really like what you did there with the Ayotte style wood hoops and that kind looks like the Ayotte style claws as well. A major Safari upgrade!!

Could you please share with the rest of the class what you did here?

Where did you get the hoops and claws....did you have to use 'taller' gaskets under the lugs when you added the wood hoops or was there enough play in the lug insert to properly thread the tension rods?

Thanks for the kind words Neal.

The hoops are Champagne Drum Woody Hoops, and the claws are Champagne Woody Hoop Claws. Lucky for me, we are both based in Winnipeg, so there were no shipping charges. I've used Greg's lugs for 4 years on all of my custom snares that I make. http://www.champagnedrum.com

I did have to make some gaskets to get the clearance for the hoops, as they are Hide-a-Head style. But that was no worries by me! I find that the gaskets makes the lugs have a bit more visual separation and "pop" from the silver sparkle wrap.

When I gig with the Bop kit now, nobody says anything other than that the drums look and sound great. Nobody is the wiser that they were less than $500.

The difference of having the wood hoops, along with new bearing edges, and the Evans Level 360 heads has made a world of a difference. I plan to keep gigging with this kit for the foreseeable future.

Excellent stuff! Thanks for the quick reply. I've just acquired another Jungle kit that I'm going to attempt a similar setup. Haven't figured out what claws I want yet...thanks for those links.
I have no doubt your kit is hitting way above it's weight class in the sound department. If you love the sound, doesn't matter if they cost $500 or $5000 !

I'll post pictures back here when I get my grand design finished.
Taking my time with one though...

Neal

I like it!

Nice to see you breaking away from the GH influence by having an x-hat instead of 5 home-made bells over your main hi-hat.

Here is my Sonor Essential Force (birch) kit in Amber Fade, sizes are 2x 22x17,5", 8x7", 10x8", 12x9", 14x14", 16x16". 14x6 Tama Starphonic Bronze snare, Meinl + Paiste cymbals, Mapex Falcon pedals +hh-stand, Gibraltar rack, Evans Black Chrome/G1 on toms, Aquarian SK2 bassdrum batter heads. Excellent metal/hard rock kit. I'm waiting for a Prolite kit though, but this will serve for a practice/occasional gig kit. I have replaced the bassdrum hoops with Gibraltar all-black hoops, in my opinion this looks much better.
