My DW Performance Black Velvet kit !!

Nice looking kit. I especially like the snare. Have one myself.

Very cool; I'm rolling with the same kit:

Odd combo of lugs and badges. Those badges look to be from the "Workshop" series, which was DW's first attempt at a mid-range kit. However, every kit from the Workshop series I've seen has always had the PDP lugs.

No matter what line they are, they are looking awesome. Congrats

DrummerBoy95, does your DW kit have reinforcement rings?

Sorry I'm not much of a gear head, specialist so I really don't know what reinforcement rings are... Could you explain it ?
I know that I'm lacking technical terms and the like, but it's due to the fact of having lived in africa (that's where I learnt to drum) and really, people there don't judge you on "wow this guy's playing a Tama starclassic blablabla" but more on "man this guy can make those drums groove", so that's the mentality I've kept as well. I chose this kit because it sounded great to me, I tried out other kits like the starclassic, and other DW kits made of other woods (i guess they were other woods because they sounded different), but I LOVE the sound I have. Same goes for the cymbals, I choose them because of the sound, not because of such or such brand loyalty. It's kind of odd to me, because as I said, back in africa, and up until last year that I moved to Peru where there's a larger market for drums (harder to be smaller than the african market haha) I had no knowledge whatsoever of brands; in africa, my dad had rented my teacher's kit, which was an unnamed kit with cymbals having no label on them either. I'm not justifying my "ignorance" in any way, and I'm by any means not trying to have a go at you guys: I'm really enjoying learning about the drums and becoming more of a gear head myself :-D

And thank you for the comments everyone :)

I'll try and post more pictures of the badge later on today, along with a china cymbal that my uncle got me for early christmas :D

cheers

Reinforcement rings are added plies of wood at the top and bottom of the shell where the bearing edges are..they are appoximately 1"-1.5" in height...they were originally used back in the old days for shell strength (and also provided a bit of muted/mellower tone)..nowadays they are used in drums to kinda get a little bit of that vintage tone...

Beautiful kit! Both of them. Don't worry about not being a "gearhead", DB95. I like your attitude regarding sound vs. brand. As it should be!
Yeah, I'd like to confirm that snare on Jimbo's set. Does look like a NP.

it is the NP Time Machine replica. 14x6.5 VLT; I picked it up from my local Guitar Center back in March.

Hey guys,

Here's a picture of the badge on the toms. Maybe you guys can figure out whether it's a Performance series of not, but that's what they sold it to me as. It sounds great, that's really all that matters :)
I'll put more pictures up soon with the new K hybrid china my uncle brought back from the US. A friend of my dad (a photographer) said he'd help me take some pictures, so I guess I'll wait until then, because as you can see, my camera isn't great...

cheers !

What you have is a DW Workshop Series kit. Scorch called it. I didn't know the Workshop Series used round turret lugs during the production. Now I know. Nice kit.

Oh ok ! Well I guess the guy at the store didn't know what he was selling then; but I guess it's more or less the same thing as a performance series, so whatever :) thanks for the compliments on the kit, I'm really proud of it, and thanks for correcting me on what kit it is !

Very nice, but I believe I would have changed that snare head before the shots were taken, lol.

Good advice, will do next time :) my father actually said the same thing, but I don't have another head, they're pretty expensive here because there's only one shop that sells decent quality equipment, so they overprice their gear way too much :-( That's why as you can see I still have stock heads on the 16" floor tom and the snare, as well as the 20" kick.
Thanks for the compliment !

Hilary Jones' kit in the 2000 Modern Drummer Festival video always looked to me like it had oval lugs, like a PDP kit. The bass drum head says "Drum Workshop". I never knew till now that there was an Ensenda-made "Workshop" series before PDP. Perhaps some had oval lugs and hers was one of those kits.

All the Workshop Series I have seen prior to this thread have oval lugs. DB95's is the first Workshop Series I've seen whith round turrets.

I don't know how many kits DW made like that but that Drum Workshop Encinada Series was made with DW's turret lugs for at least several months to maybe a year before they put oval lugs on the remaining production of that series and then discontinued it for the new PDP line.

I saw several of those kits at GCs and other DW dealers back in the early 2000s
