Show us your Four Piece Kits.

Here's what I'm rockin' these days. Gretsch Brooklyn in Satin Mahogany: 24x18", 16x16", 13x9" and a 14x6.5 Gretsch USA cast aluminum snare. I've only had them a couple of weeks but they're even better than I expected. They perform and record beautifully.

Nice pic and the drums look even better after the restoration.
Is/Was your father a drummer or were they actually yours at 15 months old??

Hey MPortnoy,

My dad was a drummer in the 1960's and 1970's in Jackson, MS and around that area. He went on to become the staff photog for Malaco Records so music was always around the house. I found those drums at about the time my baby pic was taken and pretty much came up with that kit until I was 12 years old. After that it was a Black Vistalite kit that was gargantuan in comparison!

My kid is, pound for pound a better drummer than me at that age! He can hold his own in a studio, with a click track, with older cats... but he's real modest about it. I hope he gets inspired to play them but at this point who knows... he's in that "awkward" phase right now. HA

Nice!!!
It would be so cool (especially for you) to have 3 generations of drummers in your family but you have to let them find their own path I guess.....but if he's so good at it, I'm sure he'll be wise enough to keep at it!!

Since I have grown to really like my four piece now with three pieces on hiatus, I decided to see if I could get a vintage look from my Renown. So I swapped the T-rods from my Bumble Bee Bop set with those on the Renown. I kind of like the look. The Bop set isn't set up so the regular rods will keep it company for now. I realize that some folks don't like the T-rods because of the hazard of getting things caught in them bvut man what an ease to tune.

I play an e kit usually, but have recently got a set of Sabian XS20's, seen here on my kit (I have swapped the 16" and 18" crash positions though):

And me playing my full e kit live (before I got my cymbals):

I'll play. This is my "ebay kit." Bought all the pieces off ebay after I had my kit stolen out of a studio (bummer). It's a 22x18 Ludwig Accent, 16x16 PDP M5, 13x11 Pearl Export, and 14x6.5 Yamaha steel snare. I stipped the finish and repainted them to match. The cymbals are Zildjian 15" A. Sweet Hi Hats, 21" A. Sweet Ride, 23" A. Sweet Ride. Enjoy!

After a few months of back/fourth between 4, 5, 6 piece set-ups and a bunch of cymbals, I came to this conclusion. A simple set-up is all I need to play!
