My buddy Dave gave me this. Its a 1980s Superstar 14"x8" in Maple finish. He used it in the early 90's but now he mostly plays guitar....

Just fitted it with a new Aquarian Hi-Energy which he recommended to me....

Unfortunately the wire snares are not the full length original ones.

Are these them?

I don't think so. As you can see here:

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69805&highlight=wires

the wires should extend past the bearing edges. It's a serious pain to get replacements, IMO. But I THINK the Pearl Free-Floating snare wires work. I cannot find another thread where I asked the same question some year or so ago.

Thanks! I found this thread that confirms your suspicions about the Pearl Free Floaters.

I really thought I'd responded to that thread. No wonder I couldn't find it, I was searching MY posts.

Puresound makes Free-Floater wires in their Vintage series, too.

Tama Metalworks 6.5 x 14, love it and for the price I paid it cant be beat! I just wish I could find the 8 x 14.

7" x 14" Starclassic Birch/Bubinga with an outer ply of Bird's Eye Maple! This is my first "made in China" drum and I must say the quality is top notch, this thing sounds incredible!!

I've been using the same Imperialstar snare as my main drum for 28 years...beautiful sounding with plenty of crack, volume and sensitivity.

As a bonus, I could dead lift it 10-15 times instead of going to the gym. Just saying.

Tama is my go-to line of snares. Every one of these is quality built. Tried to get all the metals and woods into the collection.
