Show off your Peavey!

Please, don't say you weren't warned when everyone & their grandmothers were gleaming at the DW's and (cough cough) pearls. Glad to see there are a few people that can hear.
Now that is one piece of stunning drum design. Yes, the look isn't great, but the principal of construction is totally fantastic. Actually, I think the finish on your kit is beautiful. Those tubs are rare, & yours must be the nicest example I've ever seen

Peavey did a good job on these guys. This is not the cheap rubbish that many associate the Peavey name with. The Radial Pro is a breath of fresh air in drum design. The concept is completely correct, & they sound superior to almost anything out there IMO.

As some of you might know, I'm in the process of designing a leading edge drum kit, & It's being built by Dean at Guru Drumworks. Our design echos some of the Radial Pro design principals, but takes them to a whole new level.

Congratulations on your stunning kit. I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

Peavey drums look very typical, a look I like. They sound nice as well. here in Europe, you don't come across a lot of Peavey drums... Their guitars and amps are more popular here in Holland.

Congratulations on your stunning kit. I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

Thanks. These other photos are not shot with the best background, but it shows it from the front & behind. Below are the RP 500's I had to sell in order to get the violet gloss kit. In a sound comparison, they came in a very close second. From a tuning standpoint, they blow away my other Gretsch kits and old BOP Ludwig. But sonically, each of my older kits has it's own appreciative character.

I played at a Christian music fest and the headliner band's drummer had his Peavey Rad pro as the main kit.. WOW.. LOVE at fist strike!

There is my set....and me

I encourage you to re-post this in the "Show your wood" thread, which is exclusively for drums with natural wood finishes (no stains). These are beautiful natural wood.

As a complete aside, but very much related, I had a great conversation yesterday with Steven Volpp, the inventor & patent holder of the radial bridge system. We discussed potential next generation concepts. Not only a really smart guy, but a total gentleman too.

I'll never forget playing a set of those Radial Pro Peaveys at a Guitar Center in Atlanta years ago. They were easily the loudest and most projecting toms I have ever played. They sounded great! I had a set of sweet Tama Superstar mahoganys with the extended shells, and until I heard the Peaveys, they were the loudest. The Radials weren't cheap though- I think they wanted like 4k for a six or seven piece set.

just replaced all the heads and picked up a black 750 series 18" floor tom and a 13x7 metal shelled prototype snare, cant wait till they get here.......

Hi, I'm new to the forum so thought that I would show you my Peaveys. The pics are before and after shots of my refurbished RP 501 kit. I acquired a 5-pc kit (12,14,16,22 & 14sn) in March 2009; added two more toms (10,12) in October 2010 and decided to remove the wraps, then stained and clear-coated it in March 2011. While not RP1000's these 501's still sounds better than the Ludwig and Pearl kits that I've owned in the past. The colour is not everyone's cup of tea and is not quite the burnt orange shade I was looking for, but I can safely say that it is definitely different and unlike any other kits in the area.

there was a kit just like that a handful of years ago in a pawn shop here in fargo...

I wish I would have bought them, but at the time had no idea that they were as cool as they are. It was a 6 piece kit and if i remember right the price tag for the whole thing was 700 bucks.

If I could kick my own ass, I would.

Awesome kit... I'm envious. I know how good those drums sound now, and wish I would have known years ago.

Don't feel bad, I missed out on a kit in 2010 - (10,12,14,16 fl, 22 bass +14sn), hi-hats, ride, crash and splash cymbals (not the greatest pies - but even so), stands, throne and double kick pedal = $900.

So, when it comes to kicking one's own ass, your not alone. I've been looking for a set ever since, but in the meantime, make do with my RP 501's.

Just two weeks after the above post, I managed to find a 5-pc RBS-1 kit (10,12,14,16,22) that I could afford. No snare, but that's something to keep the hunt alive. The colour of this kit was originally a transparent black, but as per the history of these drums outlined on the drum owners website (see the link in Tard's post #16 - 01-14-2009) some of the units have taken on a brown colour (more exposure to the sun than the others I guess). All to say I 'm now looking at another refinishing project that hopefully will result in a lighter coloured kit.

Now July 23 and, after 100 hours of work, I'm happy to update this post with pictures of my refurbished kit........

Further to post #39, I was able to get the snare that matched my kit in September. Refinished it in no time, so now I have a complete set.
