Re: Mary O- Update

Mary! Great to see you. Nothing much to contribute other than to say I'm glad things are going well and that you've found a musical vehicle to express your talents in!

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

You're absolutely right that everybody should be familiar with the etymologies derived from Middle English!

I think your sarcasm detector might be a bit wonky mate.

Re: Missing posts-What happened?

James, you have 16 hours to save the Earth.

What actually happened is the light that shines from my backside interfered with the fibre optic datacentre and caused an unprecedented glitch in the...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Dre, you should know that Madge is a scholar of archaic literature. 'Girl' refers to any child in Middle English. I thought this was common knowledge? Of course calling somebody a child when they...

Re: 22x20 kick playability

If we were to use artillery parlance, you're trying to buy a 22"/0.909 calibre cannon. Technically that's probably a mortar.

Re: 22x20 kick playability

I think your biggest problem is going to be getting cases and loading onto a stage. A 22"x20" cannon-shaped drum is more than a little impractical. It would be more practical to actually buy the...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

This is an interesting thread, to say the least.

I'd like to also point out the attitudes I've seen towards transgendered individuals as being discriminatory and entirely unfounded. I had a...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Madge, I remembered a few things today that are examples of 'everyday sexism'.

i) A sign saying 'Please wash up after yourself: I'm not your mother'.

Hmmm. Light-hearted but...

ii) The...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Wow. Now that is uncalled for, unwarranted and inappropriate.

Unfortunately I see a lot of sexism within music. One visit to my local dive bar will show you this...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

There have been a few articles recently about the 'loudness war' and how it's actually a dying trend. In the last couple of years Apple have been promoting a mastering standard on iTunes that...

Perhaps you have something there with your physicality argument. I don't know...

As for why people still listen to vinyl? My own experience is that vinyl is a lot of fun. You have a big record...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

I disagree on the headphones there James but I'll explain why.

Yes, I'm with you that with inherently 'visceral' music that you lose something in the physicality of it. You do, however, gain...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

There are a few bands that I used to listen to when I was but a wee bairn that I cannot stand now. In the last few years my listening tastes have significantly widened. My collection of music...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

Listening conditions for some may have become less ideal because of the levels of noise pollution that is around with traffic, etc but the technology has definitely improved. Modern playback systems...

Re: Forum shenanigans - LDS 2014 - Photo's & video

Henri is indeed Swiss. A quite charming chap.

I apologise for the lack of drag. It would have been oddly appropriate given the later events in my day...

As a guy that has performed FOH sound tasks in the past, that guy is full of s*%&. You don't need a hole.

The only reason a hole might be useful is if you're on a busy stage with a lot of...

Re: London Drum Show - FINAL ARRANGEMENTS - Gavin & Todd!
