My 1971 Slingerland kit. Unfortunately the 13 & 14" mounted toms did not survive. The kit was originally chrome wrapped. A drummer "BobbY Chouinard" drummer with Billy Squire was a friend of mine and...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Sad day, sold my Yamaha Oak Customs. They served me well but I needed to downsize. Getting older and trying to lighten my load as much as possible. Picked up a DW Performance kit.

Re: How were drums taught back in the day?

I started studying in the mid 70's and my teacher was a swing player. He had me work through Syncopation for the modern drummer. He had me play a swing pattern on top. Great book and he was a great...

Re: New Kit DW Performance

Hi Wildill,

I was only using the 12, 16 and 22 on the oaks recently. I could have just kept doing that and saved myself the expense but once I see something I find a way to justify it. Also the...

Re: New Kit DW Performance

To be honest with you. I think the Yamaha kit is a better made drum. Little details, for example Yamaha uses a metal plate on the inside of the shell of the bass drum to attach the spurs, the DW...

Re: New Kit DW Performance

Well, finally got to use the new kit last night. Had fun with it, need to tweak the bass. Maybe put a PS3 on? The Evans was nice and had nice low end but lacked a bit of attack, maybe a mylar pad?

Re: Tuning Toms??

I tune my 16" tom batter to a D note and the reso to an E note. Seems to work well for me. If I am in a room with too much ring on the drum I will add one moon gel. Does the trick.
