Re: Tinnitus (ear ringing)

Yeah, anti-depressants suck if you're not actually depressed. About 20 years ago I suffered from regular periodic depression and the pills helped me turn it around - gave me the breathing space to...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

Our singer owns a small PA which he brings to our gigs, which are never loud enough to warrant micing anything but vocals. So the PA is his gear. The rest of us paid for our gear (which, as you...

Re: Tinnitus (ear ringing)

Interesting info, CC. I wouldn't have made that connection. Still, given the effects of those things I'd personally rather have tinnitus. It's no biggie for me apart from understanding conversations...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

Odd. You'd only expect that kind of sound on a big kit with double double bass drums/pedals to give definition to the fast double kicks.

Re: Tinnitus (ear ringing)

I have had constant and loud tinnitus for a long time. If I try to clear my mind I notice it whistling away, but it's a constant feature fixture in the soundtrack of my life and there is nothing that...

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

I commend the accompanists' energy and enthusiasm. Perhaps the interpretation could do with a tweak but I wouldn't want to nit-pick.

Henri, I'm not THAT old! Not yet.

Re: Comparing oneself to others (drummers)

These days, when it comes to other players I find it better to steal than to judge. Almost everyone has some lick, beat, nuance, approach or arrangement device worth borrowing.

Re: Pete Best and Beatles - I Am The Walrus

I don't think I've heard of anyone having a Pete Best mode before :)

Nice track, Cry for a Shadow. Seems like a play on words re: The Shadows. My understanding is that Off the Hook is about phones...

Re: Good covers for this type of band?

Some hoary old standards ...

School's Out - Alice Cooper

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Animals

The Thrill is Gone - BB King

Re: Pete Best and Beatles - I Am The Walrus

Good to see you again, Doc! Someone did a pretty good job synching the loops with the tracks. They surely found the worst fill he ever played, looped for the world to hear over and over, poor bugger...

I'm not into haggling either. It's not a skill I've developed.

True! Knowing your limitations well enough to maintain flow is a bit of an art in itself.

Re: Extra sharp chisel 1 - finger 0 :(

Not good, Andy. Like you need your body to give you another handicap. No doubt you'll find a way. You always do :)

Wish I could be there with you guys but airports, flights and hotel stuffing...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

Wrong attitude, Lawrence! They are a real and valid musical instrument. Think of e-drums as a piano player thinks of an organ - it's a related, but different, instrument with different strengths and...

As per FB, get well soon, Andy!

Then it's a no-brainer - spend the time improving your LH wind chime swipes :)

Re: Converting programmed drum parts to acoustic kit

Timing might be an issue. When the time is clean there feels like more space. So if you play a machine beat manually and don't get the spaces exact, it can sound messy. If you look at Jojo, Johnny...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

+1 headphones. E drums can be disconcerting because the sound comes at you from a speaker rather than ambiently in front of you.

Lar, based on your last two threads it seems you are dipping your...

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

If you look at it another way, the vocals/keys player hung the drummer out to dry as he daringly embarked on a quest to make things more interesting ... esp note #4 below :)

Re: Did Ringo Scream About Blisters On His Fingers???

That's right, GB. While Arnie was a fan of tea Bernard Purdie would rather drink Muddy Water ...

Is that Jose James with BP? "Pretty ugly" is wildly - pretty funky! :)

:) :) :) Yes, I find this enjoyable in that so-bad-it's-good way as I enjoy My Pal Foot Foot.

The drummer turned what would have been another bland little churchy bore-fest into a unique...

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Good on him, I say! Screw what others think of you. The only thing he's doing wrong is being a bit insensitive about how he makes others feel within themselves, which doesn't work for me but I can...

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Larry, I remember that feeling!

In the 80s I spent a couple of years playing in a band with a guitarist who liked to use the delay effect like U2's The Edge. I always felt a bit of trepidation...
