Re: Pearls of Wisdom from Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl is one of my favorite musicians but he omitted the part about luck. I'm too old to be a rockstar, I have a day job that I'm thankful for and I play drums after work... either alone, or...

Re: Bass drum not loud enough

Just to not repeat what everyone else is saying, I found it easier to play when I upgraded my drum kit. I was playing on an old Pearl Export forever. When I upgraded to a Pearl MCX, I didn't have to...

Re: DW Preformance Series

When I was shopping for kits early last year, it was $600 more than the Pearl mcx kit I got. I liked the Performance kit, but I couldn't justify spending the extra $$.

Re: Arm pains after drumming

I just got into a situation last year where I can play everyday for hours. I had a similar issue, and basically I was just getting sore from the additional practice. Eventually the pain went away,...

Re: an interesting read about Guitar Center.....

6 years ago I worked for GC corporate for about 3 months. There are literally guys from the 1960s and 70s running the show and their egos haven't caught up to the Internet age (I worked on the...

Re: Do you think drummers compete with each other least in the inner city?

I'd do craigslist, in addition to whatever your other plans are.

Re: Does woking out helps drumming?

I think aerobic exercise helps a lot. I walk to work, and walk about 4 miles a day. I've only been doing this for the past 10 months or so, and I have a lot more endurance when I play.

Re: Why aren't Recording Customs popular today?

These drums just aren't considered cool anymore, but I think they sound amazing. One of my pro friends has a kit. Drum marketing seems to overshadow quality these days. If you get a high end kit from...

Re: Mapex Mydentity

I didn't like any of the finishes, except the gray one Matt had. The prices seem to be competitive. The funny thing is Mapex didn't even buy mydentity.com Anyone can grab it from godaddy.

Re: Kit miking

Not sure what to do with that mixer, but I have a fairly standard setup:
Tascam US1800 interface
Audix FP7 mic kit
MacBook with Logic Pro as my DAW
Canare Xlr cables (cables matter)
Mic stands...

Re: kicking out band member

I wouldn't even deal with a racist homophobe in the first place, so it's hard to relate to your issue. Obviously kick him out.

Re: Jack White's drum setup

When I think of any drum legend, their kits are setup nothing like this. I don't feel like getting in an argument about ergonomics and the optimal power point in strokes, but I'll just leave it at...

Couldn't see what that drummer was doing, but there are probably multiple techniques for playing that way if you must:

Some people get sensitive when they hear the word 'djent'. Anyway I play along to some songs as bass drum exercises. If you want to practice AND learn songs, this might be for you. I don't really...
