I would first check your bearing edges on a flat surface.

Do you have the bottom head cranked tight? That is something I found is key in getting a great snare sound.

I doubt wires will do...

I've been battling the slow left hand my whole 33 years of drumming. I still don't have it anywhere near where I'd like it to be but it never has cost me getting a gig. I've always played around it...

Sounds like you want to run before you can walk. Speed with the foot takes time. Practicing slow is key at this point. Playing things solo really takes control and will help you play things faster...

I'd tell your neighbors your dad bought you a drum kit and he is strictly enforcing you to practice everyday. Put the blame on him.

Also practice different things... an 8 hour drums solo will...

These things are man made, probably just a bad tension rod. I'd just replace the insert and tension rod.

Remember those cheap Ddrum kits that were black with red lugs and Blue with white lugs..good example of a kit that phased out quick!

My honest opinion is that these kits are going to be a short lived phase. I say if you go too crazy in about 2 years you'll hate the color of the kit.
