Re: Fast old fart - brings back memories :)

Thanks - actually, I only had 1 hour from receiving the email to returning the email with finished file attached. I sat at the kit, listened through it once just to catch the structure, then hit the...

Fast old fart - brings back memories :)

Ok, a little story,
Way back in the day, I earned my "bread & butter" from delivering simple first or second take drum tracks on the fly, & I'm talking 20 tracks a day. The work nobody else wanted,...

Re: Drumming and tennis

THE reply of the week!

Being the simple predictable uncultured male that I am, I lost interest once the short skirt era passed ;)

Re: & all is well in the world again! :)

Agreed :)

Yes, it's difficult to get that "edge" when you're 9 & the bass guitar is bigger than you are. Bassist is my favourite actually :)

Re: The origin of the term "Gospel Chops"

Over playing at it's finest - love the energy & groove. Throw in a damn fine brass section & the world is good again :)

Re: I'm at a loss. I can't tune a drum to save my life.

with a drum in good condition, this method (as a very basic starting point) works every time. The message is clear - sort your drum condition issues out then try different tuning methods. If your...

Re: I'm at a loss. I can't tune a drum to save my life.

1st up, don't beat yourself up too much over this. I'd say 75% + of drummers don't know how to tune drums, & maybe only 1% or 2% really know what they're doing. It's a learning curve just as steep...

Re: Silly branding things that shouldn't matter (but do!)

Picture 1 - Our Origin drums have a tiny series identifier badge on them (no Guru badge) as standard.

Picture 2 - Only the bass drum has a Guru badge, & that's still of moderate size. We ask...

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Exactly! Focus on the gig - everything else is coincidental, & something you have zero control over. Unless your band is the main focus of the program, you're likely only to get seconds of...

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Bill - immense video, & you so totally nailed the issue - where is the beat? In a group playing scenario, it's an easy one, the beat is in the room, but with layered recordings - hell, it could be...

Re: Silly branding things that shouldn't matter (but do!)

Not really (trying desperately not to mention oversize badges on drums ;)

I'm much more peeved by aggressive marketing of stupid things purporting to affect playability / sound that are actually...

Re: Can't decide on a rack tom size for a jazz kit

They do sound nice, but fairly heavyweight EQ - especially weighty on the floor tom & bass drum given the context.

Re: Advice on setting up 'Bonzo Bash' style event in UK

I didn't see this thread until now.

if your primary motivation is to garner exposure for your band, that's almost certainly the wrong approach to organising a successful event. The focus has to...
