Re: That moment....

I'll be sure not to annoy you ;)

I can't be absolutely sure I'll make it until early on Thursday, but as it's a special show for you, are you ok for drums, or do you want to borrow a Guru set? I...

There's a better than fair chance I'll be able to make it :)

Re: Ideal 2 Floor Tom Sizes?

I think this is worthy of note: If you fully utilise the low tuning ability of an 18" floor tom, without the benefit of close mic'ing, it's difficult to get it to project any meaningful tone out...

Re: Ideal 2 Floor Tom Sizes?

A very satisfying (to me) 14" floor tom with accompanying 10" tom & 20" bass drum in a rock tuning. Plenty low enough for me :)

Re: Ideal 2 Floor Tom Sizes?

Advising based only on the size of the drum is pointless. It very much depends on the drum's abilities. Some 14" floor toms can be superb, others not so. There's a world of difference between a...

A huge loss & a legacy to match. RIP Vic.

Re: 14x7 cast steel

1st up, I really like the sound of this drum. It has a presence & identity that offers a slightly different vibe to the usual steel offerings. Sure, it's short voiced, & with a slightly diminished...

Re: That moment....

That'll be Monmouth festival then :) Not too far from me. If it's not pissing down, I'll try to get over. What time are you on?

Re: Should I keep the 24?

TBH, there's probably more you can get out of the drum if you spent more time with it, but as you have an offer on the table (& I assume acceptable), I'd let it go. 24" x 18" can sound great if...

Re: As if THAT ever happens...

It does happen if the band performs beyond the expectations of the venue in terms of overall entertainment & earnings for the night - something you obviously achieved. Congratulations!

As a side...

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

Somewhat embarrassingly, we've run out of decals due to a faulty batch being delivered. More being made now, & should be available next week (ish). Do you want chrome or black?

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

I can't advise on the exact paint specification, as I've never done this, but I would think that flexibility is a prerequisite attribute.

Re: Favourite hoops and why?

Of course they were ;)

I have many "favourite" hoops. Each type working well in a particular situation or as part of the design consideration in a specific construction. It would be easier to...

Re: Trouble With Dunnett SS

Awe man that guy can play! Loving the Earthworks mic's too - have to get me a set of those some day :) Snare sounds great.

Glad you got your sound better dialled in. 40 strand wires can be real...

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

The marching drum really jarred with me in that "jam". Although well played, it detracted from the vibe for me.

Re: Jazz

How glorious is that!!!!

Way too funny - some fabulous players in there. Andy especially appreciates the non typical jazz treatment of the bass drum ;)

Re: New Guru!

Need - maybe not, but deserve? Hmmm, I'm not sure any of us can decide that for ourselves :)

Be honest Art, there was never any contest. The boss wins every time :)

Re: One of those rooms......

Ludlow - not a million miles from me :)

When faced with a room like this, less is absolutely more. The less sound you can drive into the room, the better the definition will be. Believe it or...

Re: Trouble playing rock stuff

Pretty much sums it up, but there is a general approach to the foundation of a rock feel for me. You can apply this effectively to any form of music, but my approach is to strip as many notes out of...

Re: Drumming dreams

I typically only dream about things I can't have/do, or nightmares about stuff that scares / bothers me. Thankfully, drums are outside of all those areas :)

Re: Help with bearing edge damage?

Although that's a fairly nasty ding, it is isolated, so probably won't have the greatest affect, especially on a floor tom. I would let overall edge condition guide you on rectification. Of much...

Re: New Guru!

This is not an uncommon reaction. Many players are not used to something so expressive / input reactive. The smallest stick placement change can often excite the shell differently & produce a new...

Re: "Marching kit" finally complete

Very nice job! I love the whole vibe, & I especially like the fact you've left the strap on the tom :)
