Re: What's your latest purchase?

Walnut that sings is the exact thing I am after spleeny. Bathed in glorious warmth is my goal. He uses clear maple hoops on the dark walnut kick too, which I like a lot. I'm going with a 14" deep...

Re: How tense are you when you play?

Yikes. It sucks when someone else's shortcoming becomes your problem, and the offending person gets to just skate by. My sympathies. Things like you describe are why I would never make it as a pro. I...

Re: Was I sold a bad snare?

6 or 7 years ago that was probably what they were going for, sounds normal.

The bottom heads, it sounds like it's the snare beds that you're seeing that dip down lower.

The dips are on...

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

For some reason, I read this to the tune of James Taylor's "Fire and Rain"

It fits if you jam it all in there lol.

Re: How tense are you when you play?

Sorry Jim. I thought it would be good to bring it to light, because tension is generally a bad thing for drummers. It's good to learn to recognize tension so you can relax it away.

Re: Jim Gordon

This is my favorite thread here. I understand that the (is it called the coda?) end part of Layla, whom Jim is credited for....he actually lifted that from Rita. She is the real inventor of that...

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Madge you don't have to make up these hare-brained stories just to impress us. Really dear, it's embarrassing.

Of course I jest. WAY TO GO!

I'm seriously chuffed to bits for you. At least I...

My thoughts are...and this is totally colored by my own experiences which may be totally different than yours...but IME, the people auditioning you don't want you to be to into yourself and your...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

There's 2 ways this can happen:

It's all about being in complete control of the time. I like living slightly ahead of the calendar.

Or,

You caught me being stupid.

Which is more likely?

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

Try this. Don't allow yourself to play anything for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, note which instrument you pick up first. See if that helps.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

The wait is excruciating isn't it? Everyone should have a Guru snare.

No walnut drums. Eww, I hate walnut drums. Who said anything about walnut drums? Perish the thought! Guru walnut drums suck...

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Re-reading your OP, you indicate that this is mostly on unfamiliar stuff, and that with stuff you know, people say you have good time. You're doing the best possible thing by noticing your issue....

Welcome to the forum, good move coming here and asking.

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

With anything you have to take the good with the bad. Referring to misinformation mainly. Regarding the internet, I feel the good outweighs the bad, by a stupid large margin. I'm far better off with...

Re: Blues jam session ... play simple - receive big applause

I subscribe to your theory. The easier it is for the audience to grasp what you're doing, the better you are to them. (assuming it all feels good) If they can decipher what you are playing, they can...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

Funny, my limited impression of you was that you were one of the fortunate working pros who does it old school. I don't know how accurate that is. It's weird hearing you list things that you got here...

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

How will you know? You won't. You're acting like you will lose a toe if you give it up. It's a totally optional thing to do, and there's almost no downside.

Drums ARE fun. Don't overthink things,...

Re: When disaster strikes: Your opinion

I can't sit here and offer an opinion because I would not be in the same headspace as I would be if a fire were imminent. It depends on how much prep time I have after I get the fam sitched.

If I...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

I'd like to hear people's stories when they drummed pre internet. Here's some random ramblings:

Got Bongos for Christmas 1967. I was 9. That and a bunch of Nehru shirts with gaudy medallions. I...

Geez thanks man golly garsh

I find this hard to believe. How can you not be influenced by it? You drum and think exactly the same as you did pre-internet? Not being combative, I just can't...

Very personalized setup. Everything is sooo close. I have to put that on the list of things to try.
