Re: The 2015 funky Guru snare competition starts now! Entry details :)

Noooo. electronic drums are just great, & most welcome. It just establishes a greater need for a lovely acoustic snare drum :)

I've been asked by a number of people, & I can't see why not,...

Re: Drums built like guitars are built. . .

That's a pleasure to see. Obvious passion & care.

This is a totally viable way of constructing a quality & distinctive instrument. I wish Guillaume well :)

Bass drums are to deep for the retro vibe, I'll go with the car ;)

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Thanks! Hateful indeed :( Please do me a favour, can you go to the competition thread I've just opened, click the competition link, & tell me what you think?

Cheers, Andy.

p.s. I hope you're...

Re: 22" x 12" bass drum - 2015 Origin photo's / spec's

Thank you :) No, there's no vertical grain element in these Origin shells, they're purely segmented.

Thank you. You do have a point on throw & dispersion, but it's more related to near field...

Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

I'd vote for bigger holes vs. rubber grommets any day. Rubber kills the lighter construction drum.

Ever since Bermuda's first introduction of the Signet, I've been a fan of the concept. Ok,...

Re: The 2015 funky Guru snare competition starts now! Entry details :)

Thanks Larry, & yes, this track was chosen specifically because you can play very simply along with a click version, or go for all out glory with the full track & embrace that sea of accent /...

The 2015 funky Guru snare competition starts now! Entry details :)

Well, you wouldn't think so, but I've been working on this for days. I had to work out the IT side of things for myself. Awe man it was painful (& it cost me too :(

Anyhow, I'm pretty proud of...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

I'd just like to announce / rant that I've spent all fekkin' day trying to set up the necessary platforms / apps / links to make this the competition experience I want it to be. I am so ill equipped...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Certainly no points for a flashy drum kit. Judging is based on all the usual foundation criteria such as good time, etc, but originality, feel, groove, texture, dynamics, etc, are all big elements...

Re: A little thunderstorm - Tour zebrano video

Thank you :) Batter edge is a part round over, truncated at 70 degrees. 45 degree inner cut, R3 flattened peak radii. Reso edge has the same outer form, but with a 60 degree inner cut & R1 peak...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Yes. There's plenty of other BV's & features to map out the song without the main vocal being in there.

Well, you could play just snare, but realistically, I expect most to use a kit, or at least...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

I've just done this as a quick tease edit, so it's chopped off abruptly. The full track is just superb! For those who think this is daunting, when you hear the version with a click, it's just so...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Ok, you pushed me :) Exclusively for Drummerworld, here's the first 1.5 minutes of the track (low quality) as a teaser. This is without click. There will be a version with click, & also a...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Video editing / quality / sound quality have no bearing on how entries are judged.

As for merging audio, there's a number of options (I'm not savvy on this either).
at it's most simple, you can...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Great news!

Ok, a little more (tease). The competition is much more music / interpretation based this year. We have a superb funk track available for download, either with or without click. ...

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Guys, more great ideas (nice one Larry, French, & Swiss), but I'll have to park those for next year. it's taken me ages to arrange permissions, etc. That's all now done. Wanted to get a co sponsor...

Re: A little thunderstorm - Tour zebrano video

These are two ply batter heads Larry (G2's), but I'd say across all our videos, we probably use clears more than coated - just. It depends on the vibe we want.

The extra definition / articulation...

Thanks Eric :) They're performing exactly to desired results - slightly better even. You need to come & try them.

Thanks Steve. Meaningful tuning range is very impressive. Not quite as wide as...

Re: 22" x 12" bass drum - 2015 Origin photo's / spec's

Actually Larry, the prototype kit goes into the bad drums category I described earlier. Spectacularly good at one thing & at one tuning, but crap at everything else. A true "one trick pony", but a...
