Re: Does independence just click one day?

The only thing that clicked for me instantly was playing a basic beat when I first started. After that, anything requiring independence took work and time, with incremental progress.

Re: Silly branding things that shouldn't matter (but do!)

Anyone have any idea if it would be possible to remove the logo off of this?

I fear messing with the patina.

Re: My Half Time Shuffle

Thanks. I'm aware of Purdie's shuffles, but I didn't think he did one like this.
Specific example like this? Thanks.

Re: My Half Time Shuffle

If it helps to have the sticking in front of you, here is a low tech version of the Rosanna variations with the sticking included.

Re: Bringing the beater back

I do both, depending on the music and what the bass drum line needs to be.

But, if you do have a goal for speed for metal, you want to practice Without burying it.

Re: I'm at a loss. I can't tune a drum to save my life.

Regarding #2:

You have to tell us what you Do know about tuning. I assume you are aware that you should be tuning in small increments, in a crossing pattern.

Re: I'm at a loss. I can't tune a drum to save my life.

I agree you should try to get some help.

From what you described, my first step would be to lightly lube the lugs.
You Should be able to start off a lug tightening it just with your fingers,...

Re: My Half Time Shuffle

It does sound like ghost notes on the hat with the accents.

All of them are played exactly the same way - with the RLL RRL sticking and accents between the hi hats and snare. The variations are...

Re: Silly branding things that shouldn't matter (but do!)

I'm glad you created this thread. Now I know I'm not alone. :)

I get manufacturers putting their logos on products, but I, too, really despise it when they are gigantic. Two big bugs for me...

Re: What's your favorite drumset category? Drums, cymbals or hardware

Actually, when I'm thinking about hardware, all I'm thinking is - what is the lightest, least amount of hardware to do the job?

Re: What's your favorite drumset category? Drums, cymbals or hardware

It's about the music, so for me, that's drums and cymbals.

If you make me choose one - it's drums.

Re: My Half Time Shuffle

Ok, here they are. 5 variations. Again, the sticking is the
R L L R R L sticking I cited previously. Make sure you include the accents.

The first 2 are simple starters, and then the next 3...

Re: Preparing for the first gig

You're getting great advice. It's already been said here well.
But, my net is:

- Make sure you have spares of key items - snare heads, bass drum heads, sticks of course.

- Know your material...

Re: My Half Time Shuffle

I tried experimenting with this with ghost notes, and I wound up not liking it.

I have 5 variations I wrote out now. 2 basic starters, and then 3 more that you can play nicely on top of...

Re: Can't decide on a rack tom size for a jazz kit

Depends what you like. I think 10s are very common in jazz. My 10 sounds great, but I'd like a 12 even more. I like things a tad lower.

Re: Can't decide on a rack tom size for a jazz kit

I'm currently playing a 10 and 14. If I could change it, I'd make the 10 a 12.

Re: My Half Time Shuffle

Interesting comments. Thanks.

By the way, that audio clip came out of a notation program called Aered. :)

I think I will also do a version of mine with ghost notes.
