Re: Could have been awkward #2

Immense picture = wow!

Madge, it could have been so much worse. Imagine if one of your cats had nestled in or around the cajon. That would make for a potentially dangerous explanation ;)

Re: Spousal Static - A mini Rant

Please also remember, partners/significant others are often concerned about who will be brought into their life. They know there's a social aspect to being in a band, & at the very least, that...

Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

your ash will darken a little Larry, but not as profound a change as you will find in padauk. Purpleheart is another species that changes quite a bit, & yes, it's mainly (but not exclusively)...

Re: Spousal Static - A mini Rant

Oh boy does that resonate with me! Imagine if we really did lead the life some suspect we have? I was shocked at my last gig when a very presentable chick came on to me, & I mean really came on to...

Re: Keith Carlock - OMG!

Simon's pencilled in for next year, but I shouldn't have said that ;)

I'm really looking forward to seeing Keith, if I can get away. I say that each year, & always miss out because I'm working...

Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

Doing it right certainly takes time Barry. There's no shortcuts :(

I love padauk too Larry. It's the tone that I like best of course, but there's no getting away from that wonderful burnt orange...

Re: Spousal Static - A mini Rant

There's obviously something she's insecure about. Talking calmly about her concerns, no matter how baseless they may appear to be, is likely to be a useful first step.

Re: Keith Carlock - OMG!

Yes, but we're trying to secure the Sticks4Drums Saturn roadshow & a special "capes without mothers" feature for next year. Does that count? ;)

Re: Keith Carlock - OMG!

Keith is another good reason to visit the London Drum Show this year, along with other decidedly lame players like Todd Sucherman, Gavin Harrison, Eric Harland, & Michele Drees - & that's just the...

Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

Bearing edges are "first stage" complete in these pictures i.e. the basic form is in place leaving only the crest to form, co planar fine adjust, skim the outer form to allow for crest formation,...

Re: Louder with or without port?

Getting a bass drum to cut through well in a live mix is all about sitting it in it's own sonic space, & very little to do with volume as such. Tuning the drum such that you take it away from the...

Re: Natural Resonance Tuning Point For A Snare?

All drums have at least one "frequency" at which the drum responds greatest in terms of sympathetic resonance. All aspects of the drum have an influence on this, & non more so than overall mass. ...

Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

Thanks guys :) No chance of playing drums after two days of finishing. Lactic acid in the arms is off the scale :(

Wouldn't that be a half shell?

Yes, sorry, my brush strokes are a bit...

Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

Just in from the workshop after spending two days getting to the primary finishing stage on these shells. They're 6mm thick padauk segmented Origin series shells. Anyhow, finishing these "old...

Re: SJC, yay or nay....

Thank you for that. As far as drums & drumming is concerned, I think you'll find I'm about as "in the real world" as it gets.

Snipes aside, I do agree with you. My comments haven't helped in...

Re: SJC, yay or nay....

That's interesting. I'm genuinely not trying to pull your string here, but what make of segmented kit did you try? Very few makers, & almost non making in ply type thicknesses.
