Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I'm almost always playing on someone else's kit, be it practice or gig'ing, so I've just grown accustomed to it. As long as i can adjust the hight and placement of the kit parts, I'm not really...

Re: Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

After watching Benny Grebs newest dvd, and analyzing my playing from recent recordings, I've found that my playing from a drummers perspective is good, but not from a musicians. There's too many...

Re: the Art & Science of Groove

It actually helped my drumming immensely(especially time and feel), by introducing me to concepts I was never aware of, even through drum lessons.
I expected more lessons and practice methods, but...

Re: Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

I don't really know for sure, but I think has to do with my expression and feel. It just doesn't sit right with me a lot of times.

Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

Lately I have been having problems with just not liking my playing from time to time. Mostly from band-practice recordings and stuff. The things I play aren't "wrong" or sloppy/out of time and so on,...

Re: ...for the jazz cats ...

I saw them last year. Brian hit his drums so hard, his drum-tech had to readjust his floor tom twice. Wayne wanted to play the whole night, but the other band members had to almost carry him off...

Re: German grip, which German?

I like to think that the american grip stems from holding KFC drumsticks.

Re: Is hard to make a living out of jazz? Are there any jobs out there?

Most of the jazz cats around here end up as session musicians and teachers, so it looks to me that it's really hard to live of jazz alone.

Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

The only problem I've had, is that most of jazzers are a tight knit group, and it's sometimes hard to get to play with them. I've managed to play 3 tunes in one night out of the 4-5 times I've been...

Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

So lately I have been going to jazz jams in the city I live in. It's hosted by the local jazz-college and most of the people there study jazz or have studied jazz.

Just watching all those young...

Re: Are there fewer demands for a drummer now, than before?

Thanks for the replies, keep 'em coming!

I think for bands it's maybe easier to get a perfect take, but for session musicians, the bar has been raised

Re: Practice!

I've been recently practicing time and groove a lot. And clearing my mind when I'm playing and just concentrating on the music.

The latter has helped my a lot, since I sometimes think too much...

Re: Are there fewer demands for a drummer now, than before?

Sorry, english is my second language, so it's a bit lost in translation'y. What I mean is that it's easier to be a drummer and record in the studio than it was before. For example that you had to...

Are there fewer demands for a drummer now, than before?

Hey guys. I'm writing a research paper for my school, and I'm in the middle of gathering info. The hypotheses is that there are fewer demands for drummers generally now, than there was 10-20 years...

Re: D'Angelo - Black Messiah

Been listening to D'angelo for some years, because of Chris Dave. Really dig the dilla beats.

This is something I usually did on some blues-gigs, where the people watching were dance-band people.
