Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Lots of really great responses here that seem to really cut to the heart of the matter.

ANON LA PLY:
"Philippe (? sorry, bad memory :)"

Not even close :D

"Perfectionism is a destructive...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Well, I've always been sloppy and uncoordinated, but I feel that it's somehow getting worse. If it is or not is kind of hard to tell, because I have no old recordings of me playing along to music...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Nah, I've tried that before. It only lasts a few hours before I start up again. I view this as kind of a "trial run" for quitting. I'm seeing what it feels like to remove them from my life completely...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Thanks everybody!

I'm going to try what a few people have suggested and take a break. As of late, it's been a meaningless treadmill of masturbatory noise-making that I would engage in seemingly...

Negative Progress / Quitting

I used to post around here somewhat regularly a few years back and recently started lurking again. In the intervening time I had played a fair deal with a couple of friends including a handful of...

Re: When people ask you to 'play something', what do you play?

Crossover Triplets. No better way to easily impress people who know nothing about drums.

If the person asking is a musician, I just play something really simple and tell them I suck.

Re: Should I get this snare?

I don't have experience with a Supraphonic personally, however I do know that it didn't become one of the most recorded snare drums in history for no reason.

Re: What's the best things about your playing?

The best thing about my playing is that a very small number of audience members/other musicians have been subjected to it.

Re: What do you look for in a company drum video?

I just watched the English Ash video.

Keep doing that! No talking, no BS.

Re: Learning a Song You Hate

I've never knowingly listened to this song until now, but something about it just makes me feel ill.

Re: Learning a Song You Hate

I realized that I was pretty selfish in that regard with the band I was in. I just looked at our last setlist and realized that 5 out of the 9 songs we did were ones that I suggested, and our poor...

Just out of curiousity, what are some other songs that you'll be doing? Which ones did you recommend?

Re: Learning a Song You Hate

Just play through it a few times. That song has a cool tom pattern and I think it's pretty fun to play. Just dive in and try it. You may end up really enjoying it.

Re: Do you feel sorry for today's kids?

I agree completely. a drum machine does a thing that a human cannot necessarily do. Humans do things that a drum machine cannot necessarily do. Why pit the two against each other? I think it's really...

Re: Do you feel sorry for today's kids?

I get kind of angry when people talk about the 70's as if it was all Zeppelin, no Captian and Tennille.

Re: Ever had a trainwreck?

I have nothing but trainwrecks!

I'm playing Summertime Blues. Last song of a 2 hour thing. Just me and the guitarist/vocalist. We play the first chorus and I totally butcher the fill-out....

Re: Ludwig maple 8X14 vs Gretsch USA Custom Maple 8X14

Definitely the Luddy. It's gonna be basically the same drum but cost much less. You can get Die cast hoops later. The throw off on the Ludwig is still pretty good. Go for it. Post pics!

Re: how do you feel?

A story from my very limited personal experience.

Awhile back a singer-songwriter that I know asked me if I wanted to lay some drum tracks for an Demo/EP he is doing. I've always thought that he...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

For me. I'd rather he just use them for the songs they were made for. For instance Red Sector A. That song would sound just plain wrong with acoustic drums IMO.

As far as the drumsolos go, I...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

I don't really mind them but I prefer when everything was acoustic. It's like he had a laboratory of sound on stage. Especially during the Hemispheres era.

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

From what I've seen, it's mostly people saying that they understand his talent but his playing doesn't move them particularly.

It's like Keith Moon. That guy was influential beyond belief. Most...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

He recorded "Malignant Narcissism" off of "Snakes and Arrows" on a four piece kit, although, you can't really tell from listening to it.
