Re: Visualizing rhythm ... absolutely brilliant

The circle thing was really cool, it helps to have different mental approaches of things. It's an intuitive way to conceptualize it. Pretty cool Ant.

Re: Universities and Music *sigh*

Unfortunately, I have to agree with what the others are saying. Making a living from music is something you don't want to bury yourself in debt for. Don't saddle yourself with massive debt. If you...

Re: Color Matching - Sonor Force 3007 & Session Series

I can't answer your question, but you could re wrap a drum using Jammin Sams drum wrap products. He could help you get the right match if you fail to find what you want.

Re: Tempos - Too Fast?

Plus if one one is having that enjoyable of a time, it helps convey good energy and is normally good for the overall big picture.

Nothing feels quite like the feeling I get after we played a good...

Re: I suck at power ballads.

I love ballads. "Stairway to Heaven" is a power ballad.

What makes a ballad....a ballad anyway?

Tell us about your childhood Jeremy. You can lie down if you like.

Re: Tempos - Too Fast?

Great post.

Except for the constipation part. James, knowing the "problem"....why don't you do the opposite and let all that tension go? Without changing the drum part. Changing your mental state...

What makes you think you are unconvincing Mr. Jeremy Bender?

Re: Tempos - Too Fast?

Re: Steve Gadd. He makes time feel so good. It's not just good time, it's good feeling time. It's the Mona Lisa smile factor.

Re: Tempos - Too Fast?

The whole "if we play it faster there will be more excitement" thing is a crock o' crap IMO. Excitement is NOT tempo dependent. That's the mark of someone who is not comfortable with time, if they...

Re: Yamaha original Maple Custom kit - Is it worth it??

FWIW, I'd pick the natural wood set. It's a happier looking set.

Re: Tempos - Too Fast?

As a drummer, it's important to know the feel without a click. I find that if the drummer is bang on, everybody trusts him/her, and everything is great. If the drummer is trying to follow, yea, no....

Re: New Guru "Tour" series kits - details here first :)

Guru needed a line that was more affordable. I bet this line will be a big seller. Good move for Guru, it will make the company accessible to a much larger market. The natural wood look is the...

Re: Tempos - Too Fast?

A lot of times, people don't know how they sound/come across to the audience. I'd say record gigs and rehearsals and listen back as a band. This would be much better than trying to make your case and...

Re: First time in EIGHT years.. I have drums set up at my place.

Congratulations man. There's nothing like the freedom of playing your own kit in your own house. Here's to a happy life.

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

TBH, I'm more sentimental about my cymbals. Drums come and go but my cymbals... there's an expression that uses cold dead hands that comes to mind...

My Guru Origin drums are the exception,...

Re: screwed up my first gig

If you care to look on the bright side....you knew exactly what went wrong. The first step in fixing a problem is identifying it. Then the solution makes itself apparent. So you're identifying the...

Re: Left hand: uneven strikes & poor grip. Advice needed

If you play matched, one of the things that helped me was to observe how I moved the stick with my "good" hand compared to my "weak" hand. I noticed that I was using 2 different techniques for each...

Re: Jim Gordon

If there was a drummer I model myself after, it would be Jim Gordon. I just can't get enough of his playing. I love how Clapton talks about Jim...only in the most loving and respectful manner. To me...

Re: screwed up my first gig

Welcome to the club. Your cherry is popped now and it stung a little. You're doing fine and you got it out of the way. I would be worried if you said you nailed the gig. Delusion and all that. But...

Re: Just in case you forgot

I'm with you here. I really admire those who can really finesse a cymbal. A cymbals maximum volume is about the most generic, one dimensional sound it can make IMO.

Re: Just Bought a late 60's Luddy Kit

Looks great Bob.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much does it bother you to have 2 different badges on the the same kit. My WMP Luds...the 13" tom has a different badge. I've learned to let it go,...

Re: Member leading other members on in a series of misleading questions in threads.

I have to concur with the others. If you know his deal, just ignore him. You are sinking to his level.

Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

Metronomes are for keeping the meter steady. You can speed up and slow down all on your own. But hey if that's how you want to use one.

Re: Kick Drum physics experts in the house?

Crank the reso head. A tight reso head will tame an out of control bass drum. Tight like a tympani, boing!

A boingy reso head makes for a great kick tone in my world.
