I do now... and have for some years.
I require and regimented audition to qualify for lessons.
but back when I was starting out I did not have that luxury.

yes believe it or not this is a topic that drummers have been having heated discussions about for decades

not unlike Bonzos foot, Tony Williams ride technique , and all the Neil Peart / Ringo...

fortunately for Buddy he gave this interview before people could just go to YouTube and watch anything he ever played on demand

if you watch this solo... or really any solo he ever played ... ...

verse sounds like

three measure of 3/4 or 6/8 however you want to count it
one measure of 11/8
one measure of 4/4

that happens once instrumental ... then twice...

what does "play jazz drums" mean ?

that doesn't sound like anything any musician I have ever know would say

a true "jazz" musician would have joined you in any direction you wished to go

go to any predominantly black baptist church on either coast or in the south

while the preacher is preaching the band basically rips licks in between sentences to dramatize what he is saying ....

it has taken on a new meaning in recent years .... it apparently now means any linear pattern in 16th note, sextuplet or 32nd notes played quickly

gospel licks when played correctly are executed ...

I've done both

done probably 15 DIY tours
and payed on to one tour .... and as a result was asked to play on the 2006 Warped tour

made a lot of good connects on the "buy on" ... had some...

but just curious.... are you calling it a "gospel chop" simply because it is mostly linear ?

there is more to a "gospel chop" than playing a linear pattern

you play it more...
