Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

Lazy of me, I know. But I'd much rather the "motion picture" than tuning in at the same bat time, on the same bat channel next week to wade through the mini-series as presented in that other...

Re: Covering a song with band above my skill level (Opinions on hitting the "key" points)

Definitely play the 16ths.

For the record, I'm hearing him open the hats on the + of 3 every second measure and the accents fall on the 2 and 4 of the last two measures. (I think he may also open...

Re: More creative drumming with a cape on?

Yep, Kilpatrick is just awesome.

Was actually shown that clip a couple of weeks ago. Dropped in to visit the folks and the old man was playing around with the thumb/finger doubles at the time....

Re: Louder with or without port?

Whilst a ported head might be slightly louder, any difference in volume is gonna be marginal at best. Can't say I've ever heard a noticeable difference between the two.......certainly nothing that is...

Re: More creative drumming with a cape on?

You'd definitely want a large bass drum.

Re: Most inovative and influential drummers.

Max Roach. I'm no jazz aficionado, but my untrained ear hears a distinct change in approach from the time Max hit the scene. He played with everybody. Was at the very top of the heap and influenced a...

Re: worth it?

I think you should get it..........after all, that's all you really wanna hear.

Just buy the thing already and start playing it.

Re: worth it?

I think it's pretty bloody obvious it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks mate.

Why bother asking? You already know what you're going to do. Just up and do it.

Re: More creative drumming with a cape on?

Before I can determine the true cape to creativity ratio. I need to know, am I getting my gear after I've run away or is my mother?

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

Hey great thread..........for my seven year old.

I might send her over. The logic is right up her alley. If it ain't black, then it just HAS to be white, yeah? :-)

Re: worth it?

Staggering thread.

Every time I genuinely think I can no longer be surprised at what goes down at this place.......along comes another example to prove me wrong.

It's enough to make you...

Re: Practicing on a Pillow

Have done in the past. Always found it to be a good wrist workout. Now days I prefer to use a Moongel practice pad when I want to work on a surface that offers little to no rebound. I alternate...

Re: Not doing a gig because of the venue

The reputation of management to uphold their end of the bargain has always been far more important to me than the reputation of the venue itself.

I've played my share of less than reputable...

100 Most Influential Drummers......Who The Hell Are They?

I'd love to see this list: http://joranmeynen.wordpress.com/the-100-most-influential-drummers-of-all-time/

Particularly interested in the chronological aspect of it. But as it stands, I can...

Re: Tell me if this is a stupid idea

Every once in a while my shoelace comes undone. When it does, I'm more inclined to just tie it up again rather than replace the laces with velcro. I feel the same way about the odd errant stick.

Re: WTF!

Someone has hacked the site and thrown that up as a piss take, surely? There's no way that nimrod would've generated six and a half thousand Euro just by asking for it. If it were really that easy,...

Re: Open handed technique

No it doesn't clarify. But it wasn't really meant to. It was intended to highlight how confusing trying to define open handed playing as only being open when the non-dominant hand is playing that...

Re: Open handed technique

Look, the best we can do is hold our assertions up to some scrutiny and see how they fare.

Just so that I'm clear, your assertion is that to play "open" handed, one must be using their...

Re: Open handed technique

A door is still open regardless of whether it's pushed or pulled. It is open simply because it is no longer closed. The hands are still open regardless of whether the right or left hand is leading....

Ok. I've stayed outta this thread 'cos ultimately I couldn't give a toss what road someone else wants to travel. As long as we're all bound for "Rome" then that's good enough for me....

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

For sure. Minimalism = creativity. Everyone knows that. It only took me 397,385,190 of those threads to be convinced of it. But small kits trump big kits. Banging away on a tin can with one stick...
