Me too - vibrating grommets on air holes in a PDP 16" floor tom. Fixed by a piece of tape at the moment. It doesn't sound like what you describe but you never know.

I was going to say consider the fact that a full set of new heads for a kit might be $200-$300. So don't buy a kit that is not worth that type of investment. I have made that mistake.
