Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

Agree.

I had tons of drum lessons as a teenager. None of that meant anything as player until I got up on stage and started doing it, making mistakes, and learning from said mistakes.

Re: Drummerworld Dictionary

Sometimes it's tough as it is with all the international colloquiums.

More than once I had to google what the heck some of our British and Aussie friends were talking about. lol.

We could also...

Re: Transferring acoustic kit to electronic, help needed with the module.

Thanks. I have had the TD-7 and TD-20.

While the TD-20 had way more samples, and much much better articulation of the samples, but I also noticed there were several samples that were simply the...

Re: Transferring acoustic kit to electronic, help needed with the module.

For live, or studio, or just practice?

As for as real sounds, triggering a virtual instrument program via a computer is going to sound better than any module. But that gets more complicated in...

Re: GRETSCH BROOKLYN mediocre bad quality?

Oh, I've seen plenty of bad stuff from Grestch over the years.

I have worked for 3 separate Grestch dealers, and I've experienced all kinds of disasters from them.

Although they have gotten...

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

For gig/session (hopefully) I already know the music (or at least a vague concept), and have chosen the appropriate number of toms in advance based on the musical setting.

While I own 8 thru 18,...

Re: Those of you who have "sound proofed" a room for your drums...

Quiterock works very well, particularly with the whole Quite system of products.

But unless one OWNS the condo, there would be no point in installing it.

Re: Priced to High??

I can't follow the link.

But if iI'm reading everyone right and it's a Gretch Catalina, then yes.

There are dozens of those sets on craigslist in my area on any given day.

Simply putting up more dry wall isn't going to do much given the structure of your room is still attached to the rest of the building.

And there...

Re: Which college will be the best choice for drummer doing rock muisc in LA?

This is quite true. Back when I was gigging and playing often, I never brought up that I went to PIT. Most people don't care. Can you did the gig or not? That's all that matters.

This is also...

Cool story Tony.

I bought a hardware case that once belonged to Tony Thompson.
Although I have gigged with it so much you can barely read his name on it anymore.

Re: Which college will be the best choice for drummer doing rock muisc in LA?

Pretty much. They will take anyone who can pay.

Sure, they have an "audition" process, but the fact is, skill isn't a requirement to get in as long as you have the tuition money.

I spent a...

Re: Former Modern Drummer Managing Editor Scott K Fish Says Hello

Hello Scott!

I've been an avid reader of Modern Drummer since the 80's, and at one point I had an extensive collection of back issues.

Welcome!

Re: Leave Me Alone Please

If I'm trying out drums, I don't sit down and play grooves or fills.

I hit the kick a few times, the snare a few times. Hit each tom once or twice. That's enough to tell me what it sounds like.

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

Journey is a case study in how the music industry used to be, and a big reason why it is no longer the same.

Journey's first 3 albums sold poorly. They were sold to change their sound. Their 4th...

I often have dreams that my band from the 90's has a reunion gig.
