Re: Help pinpointing an old Pearl Export's manufacture year

Nice find, that's a very good price where I live too.
Another nice thing about your find is it has some single-braced hardware which will save on weight lugging it around to gigs. I have those exact...

Re: Silly branding things that shouldn't matter (but do!)

Your drums look and sound wonderful. But In all due respect I think you are selling yourself short by doing this.
Many a drummer on here (i.e. people who have a relationship to drums) has inquired...

Re: I subbed this weekend...

Good on you Rogue. Not all your stories have to be blue.

I was just wondering how it works in these church/worship bands. Are there sermons, speeches and scripture readings, with the music played...

Re: Jim Gordon

On Bo Eders recent thread his Soundcloud had a nice version to 'Classical Gas'. I had never noticed the drumming in it before. Went to the original and with a little research to find who it...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

Ya without a doubt, learn something every day on here.
I wished I had joined DW earlier than when I did (2011 I think). Would have saved me from making some unwise choices before then.

Re: Snare rim-click help

ha, there was a rather heated thread on here maybe 6 months ago..?.. as to what 'cross sticking' is. Some referred to cross sticking and 'crossover' as the same thing, others thought cross sticking =...

Re: Snare rim-click help

You may be muting too much with your palm, thus 'quiet'. Open your hand but don't mute everything with it. Some people invert the stick to get the butt end on the rim for more volume.

I learned a...

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

"I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way."

His great bass playing stood out. Lived a full life with an exceptional band.

Re: How tense are you when you play?

Clear and cool, with a chance of frost.

I have just made a transition in the past year to being ultra-relaxed at gigs, and listening to and taking in the whole band.

Re: Singers and percussion

OK Madge, I'm going to turn it around. You offer to sing a number in your band while playing drums.
Granted it's not the same though - drummers have 4 limbs going, whereas singers need only have...

Re: One or two mids toms?

For me its all about ride placement. I can't stand having the ride far over to the right.

And oh yeah, of course one tom looks way cooler too.

The only suggestion I would say is tune your snare low.

Re: Unreliable band members

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean you won't help with the PA? You won't pick up another band member on the way?

I would think the PA is everybody's responsibility, at least huffing it in/out of...

Re: Bass drum muffling - advice please

+2 on beater and heel down.
but also consider getting a used 18 or 20 bass drum. Doesn't take up much room.

Re: Bid like a man!

Yep lots of 'extras' on boths sides. I am/was hoping Amazon would start selling used items big time and fill the niche without all the smoke and mirrors.

Re: Shooting for a 50's sounding snare! Any advice?

A 5 x 14 wooden snare, maybe even 3 ply, with 6 or 8 lugs, open sound.
I would guess an older cheap snare could get that sound.

But to my ears drums were not well recorded then so in some way...

Re: 80s and 90s drums (the Glam Rock ones)

Many 80's and 90's drums are fine. Sure the tom sizes were deeper on some sets, but the hardware was built to last and many companies (Pearl, Tama, Yamaha) were innovating and producing some great...

Re: Bid like a man!

But everybody has their price. Get in at last minute and slap your money on the table, or be prepared to be outbid. It's about how bad you want it, what you're willing to pay. Eeking along bidding...
