Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Glad to hear it, & that my advice was of some use. If you ever want to really up the depth of lustre, follow my guidance in previous posts.

Anyhow, go & enjoy those wonderful drums :)

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Site due to be updated in the next few days. Current lead time is circa 4 months.

I am very interested in your impression of the vibe we put out. I can think of at least one video featuring a 1...

Re: Hiromi trio gig report. Simon Phillips, Anthony Jackson

Thank you, & yes, isn't music always an emotional experience ? :)

Enormous indeed Arky. I think you would have loved it!

Make sure you check her out if you get the chance. She's great with...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

A used price of 5,000 ($8,400USD) is a lot of money, but given the collectibility & reputation of those drums, their condition, & coupled with the number of pieces, I think the price is fair. They...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

All good & valid reasons, but some clarification if I may.

1/ We are shipping, but that's not reflected on the website yet, simply because we're waiting for photography.

2/ Agreed on price. ...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hi Gavin, although not directly related to a thread about you, I'm wondering what your impression of Simon's London gig with Hiromi is? I think you were there on the Sunday night. Room sound...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

IMHO, I agree. Many a nice veneer made to look a bit "plasticy" by high gloss lacquer/polycoat.

Art, some well applied & buffed wax would really make those shells pop, whilst maintaining their...

Re: Hiromi trio gig report. Simon Phillips, Anthony Jackson

Yes, it's the combination that really allows the sparks to fly. I'd even use the term "juxtaposition" to place Hiromi & Simon in context. Anthony is just trying to make sense of it all (tough...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Removing all the hardware is best. It's not essential, but it does make the job a lot easier. Additionally, if you have a bare shell to work with, it's easier to get an even shine without wax...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

So, you're in the UK?

As for getting a better lustre on your finish, just apply a couple of coats of Briwax (clear) to the shells. Wait about 10 minutes for the wax to nearly dry before buffing...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

I echo the advice to hear both if at all possible. I've played both, multiple times, & in a variety of settings. I personally prefer the Sonor, & by some margin, but that's me. There's one thing...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Agreed. Good drums, well made, strong company. Even with the best of intentions, every company can catch a cold on something from time to time. It's how they react when things do happen that gives...

Re: Hiromi trio gig report. Simon Phillips, Anthony Jackson

My drive was bad enough (both ways). I'm still tired from it now! 1.500 miles is just insane.

Yes, lovely old hall. Never heard of it before this gig. It's a fairly minor venue positioned down...

Absolutely no apology needed. Your advice was both strong & relevant :)

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

From before the time DW bought the Camco parts, & many years before DW put the George way turret on their first Keller shell. You may wish to do your homework before shouting.

Taking the thread title literally - strive to become a very well known session drummer ;)

As the OP is now 21 years old, did he make it?

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Once played by Neil Peart? That will add at least 3% to the value right there! ;)
