Re: What was the first concert you went to????

Kiss. Unmasked Tour. Waverley Park. Melbourne, Australia. November 1980.

Hey, I was 8 and Kiss would still be huge in Oz for another few months........until they kicked the cat, released The Elder...

Re: Is live music dead?

One of these days my friend, I'm gonna be in your part of the world.......or you're gonna be in mine. And when that happens we're gonna grab a couple of pints, or fine reds, or Scotches, or anything...

Re: Drummers you thought sucked,but...

I referred you back to 4 humble little albums last time you called their musicianship into the question. I can only take it you've never given them fair hearing. You wouldn't be trying to draw a...

Re: Whiplash Oscar win - will it spur sudden interest in "jazz drumming"?

Not even sure Rocky did. I think the closest it came was to inspire people to run up stairs, pumping their arms about with the sound of trumpet anthems in their heads.

And I think for a fleeting...

Re: Help Finding out drum tom size!

If I'm honest, very little about anything you've written here makes any sense mate.

You make it sound like you're being required to split the atom, or decipher the Enigma code, or explain the...

Re: Help Finding out drum tom size!

I'm struggling to take this thread seriously. Is it intended as a joke?

Not knowing is one thing, everyone has to start somewhere and it's perfectly acceptable to ask for help. But not wanting to...

Re: Guy downstairs goes mental when practicing e-drums

Just build the tennis ball riser. They're supposedly proven performers. Guys on e-kit forums swear by them.

You're missing the point mate. It's not the volume of the kit itself. It's the...

Re: Rock albums with modern production and a great vintage drum sound

Honestly, everything from Blast Tyrant through to the most recent offering Earth Rocker, has managed to capture some great drum sounds. That's not to diminish several of their older albums...

Re: Rock albums with modern production and a great vintage drum sound

Pretty much all the Clutch albums. They seem to capture JP's big drum sound like they did in the days of old.

Re: Is Don Henley relevant here?

I struggle to think of a time when Don Henley wouldn't be relevant.

I remember a thread on this very topic actually. Some knucklehead suggested that perhaps he wasn't. As I recall, the...

Re: Tune Bot - Yay or Nay?

Quite a bit of discussion on this one mate, if you care to search for it.

Ultimately, the only consensus is that there is no consensus. For those who need/want them, they are a big fat yay. For...

Re: Beginner: Issues Reading Music Sheet

Pure preference. Play where it's most comfortable to do so without the need for excessive reaching, twisting, slouching etc etc.

Set it up at the same height as you'd have your snare drum. That...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

If they've never heard Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers or Exile On Main Street, there's the slightest chance someone might almost buy into what you're saying............almost.

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

I think it's because he doesn't play like he did on those first three albums. Couldn't get further from it at times. He's become progressively more minimalist over the course of their...

Re: What rudiments should I be working on?

Couldn't agree more.

You're obviously on the right track. Select a couple and work through them, then when they become comfortable, select a couple more and get started. You'll find that as you...

Re: Drums as an investment?

Unless it's a green sparkle Ludwig owned and played by Bonzo. Or a black oyster pearl used by Ringo. Or Moonie's 'Pictures of Lily' kit. Or Buddy's Slingerlands. Tony's yellow Yammies......Elvin's...

Re: Writing with the weak hand?

I wouldn't necessarily discredit it out of hand either. It's certainly not gonna hurt anyone who wants to try and if some individuals feel they're gaining a little extra strength, dexterity or...

Re: Writing with the weak hand?

This^^^

I'm yet to see an experienced, professional drummer or drum instructor advocate anything but this tried and tested method.

The fact that none of these established players or top...

Re: Beginner: Issues Reading Music Sheet

You can always just throw it in a snare stand basket too. That may be a better investment in the long run as you'll have to buy on eventually anyway and it's going to serve more than one purpose.

Nor I. At least, not any serious request. I've told drunken halfwits staggering around in pubs to keep moving when they've been struck with the bright idea that they'd like to play. But I've never...

Re: Beginner: Issues Reading Music Sheet

Usually in rhythm notation, the bottom row of notes would correspond with your bass drum.

So in all examples as listed on the page you provided, the bass drum is playing on beats 1 and 3. The...
