Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

I just read the entire thread (again, whilst waiting for a shellac coat to dry :( Some fairly scurrilous back door dealing, but fairly typical story of financial muscle believing they have a right...

Re: worth it?

Bmeat - sorry, I have to say this. Nothing personal, but I don't think I've ever encountered a drummer who has absolutely no idea of what they want like you. You flip flop from one kit to another...

Re: something I am building

Dan, 20 ply snare shells are about as non resonant as you can get, & the exact opposite of a construction that would benefit from a free floating design. If that's the sound your shooting for, I'm...

Re: More fun with audio techs....

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about Jim. Desk - amp - graphic is standard practice for feedback control. Plug a few mic's in & position them for close personal monitoring too. ...

Re: worth it?

Quick tom? 10" x 8" is fairly standard. 12" x 9" is closer to power tom depth. Strange classification, but no matter.

Re: Need Some Help

Experiment with tuning young Jedi ;)

Phychosiz, unfortunately, in the budget realm, new is not necessarily a guarantee of good playing condition, although it increases your odds of getting it...

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

3 for me, but only infrequently, & usually only as a "get me through the gig" backup for a disfunction I have in my right leg.

Re: Snare drum Olympics - help needed - opportunity!

Jeremy, I don't have a recording of this specific model (just about every other configuration, just not this one :( Anyhow, here's a clip of the 13" version. Of course, a higher fundamental & more...

Re: It's the room not the kit !

Tune up - every time - unless your tuning is already high.

It was a typo, but I left it in place to see if anyone would notice the clearly "not to be taken seriously" piece of self promotion.

Re: Irony?

That's pretty much it. This may sound blunt, but endorsing artists are a marketing resource to be used as deemed appropriate by the drum company. Ok, it's by agreement of course, nobody's forcing...

Re: worth it?

I think you're going to struggle with an 18" bass drum. Also, I have to be honest, I thought the sound of all those kits was flat & fairly horrible. Ok, you don't expect wonders at this price, but...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Nice modification, & a good bass drum depth too.

Re: worth it?

Pillow or no pillow, in your genre of music, playing unmic'd, you're not going to hear the bass drum unless your band is playing with utmost volume sensitivity. Somehow, I doubt that.

Re: worth it?

If you're always mic'd, then a kit in bop sizes is an option. Playing the genres you describe unmic'd with bop sizes is going to be one huge disappointment.

Re: Questions about kick drum heads

That's not correct. How thin is your film? Drummers are used to film thickness measurements (i.e. 10mil, 14mil, etc), so will be able to roughly translate the additional thickness of your film into...

If this is you, do you intend to use the kit in this environment?

Re: Snare drum Olympics - help needed - opportunity!

Sorry Red, you'll have to wait ;) No paint!

ah yes, I forgot about the birthday :)

Given the odds & multitude of tastes, I think the odds of "winning" are pretty slim.

Thanks Larry, & sorry...
