Re: "Oh no - Not another new bearing edge!"

Welcome to the forum! Thank you for your kind words, & keep in touch :)

Thanks! I've put in a new registration. Dean was registered there many moons ago, but it's about time Guru had a presence...

Re: "Oh no - Not another new bearing edge!"

Thanks :)

For 99% of the time, I wouldn't want my drums ringing that long either. It's an extreme example of what the edge (& other design factors) can achieve. An obvious display of ability to...

Re: "Oh no - Not another new bearing edge!"

By releasing the video, I've excluded the possibility of patenting the design. As soon as something is provably in the public realm, it's game over (unless you patent something in the USA -...

Re: Snare building course

No problem :) Please pass on my fondest regards to preston.

On lugs - if you go for a steam bent maple shell, the last thing you want to do is dampen it with big die cast lugs & rubber gaskets. ...

Re: Snare building course

I'm assuming you're going to preston of Tiki drums? Great guy who's both patient & passionate. You'll have fun :)

If you don't yet have one good wood snare, & you've got the option to go for a...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

That's all possible, but increased machining difficulty, & TBH, I doubt it's effectiveness. There are many other variations on the design that can alter the resulting instrument characteristics. ...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

My gut feeling is they'll do absolutely nothing with it, or they'll use it, but make some change they can then claim as their own. Of course, I could be completely wide of the mark, but isn't that...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Mixed edge setups have been the primary R&D mules. It's how we'll be applying this technology, not as offered in this video. The results are nothing short of a revelation in combination with a...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Absolutely guys, hence my answer to Grunt earlier. This edge gives us choices - choices not readily available until now. I used a drum with both batter & resonant edges using the new form. ...

Re: Oh no! Not another new bearing edge :(

Pretty much Larry, & absolutely no cheating whatsoever. Audio is via two Rode NT5's positioned to capture room sound. Same mic's picking up my speech & the drum.

if I had more of the same...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

Ahem - it might be on a different level, but aside from hard earned proprietary stuff, I think you'll find we're very open & informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUV8NW8gqHs

I thank you...

Re: Gurus played hard!

Ah, interesting. No communication about a stave snare build, just his experiences in Middle Farm Studios with the Gurus.

We're certainly at the upper end of drum pricing, but that directly...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

I must admit, there's no reason why we couldn't offer an abridged version of our internal A-B testing for scrutiny, except for the cost of doing so. To cover all the bases, we'd need to build...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

I'd argue we do, but less well positioned to get the message out. Of course, our approach is very different - period!

Re: Gurus played hard!

Jay's a really nice guy, & a great player. We've had some pleasing communication about drums :)

Here's a few photo's that Jay shot & sent to me.

The crashing thing isn't me either, but it works in the context of this jam I think :)

Re: Guru snare competition results!

Category winners & overall winner videos are in the first post of this thread :) There were a number of excellent submissions in the pro section, any one of which could have won the category, but in...

Yolanda is indeed very accommodating where Guru is concerned. We were first introduced through Michele Drees. Put simply, I think Yolanda enjoys working with us. Whenever there's a session, she's...

Thank you for the kind words again guys :)

Maybe, but Sonor are still broadly within their original time estimate, so nothing to complain about ;)
