If you want to get a Pearl Masters kit, I'd wait a bit for the new Master series kits to be out (soon).
They have 6 ply and 4ply /w rings models both in maple and birch now.
I've heard very good...

Re: New kit idea

I still can't figure out exactly what the Mapex M is.
All I know its maple, and it has thicker shells than the Pro M.
Mapex also no longer makes it as far as I can tell.

So my guess would be...

Re: New kit idea

First of all... Mapex M?
I'm not sure if this is a cheaper model or just an older one... but it is definately not the same thing as the Pro M (the 'M' has thicker shells.. only difference I've been...

"Oh and I just noticed this... I do believe the snare that comes free with the Pro M* is the BP snare you have.
But still, you could always sell it."

Left the edit window open forgetting about it...

Re: New kit idea

The Mars kit is, I believe... basically an all basswood shell with just one outter ply of maple.
Not good.

The Catalina Maple... to be honest I cannot tell you much about it as I have never tried...

Re: New kit idea

I'd stick with the 3005 unless you find a real good deal on something better.
And did you ask if they have the free BP side snare deal there? Because its possible they may not.

Re: Feedback: Buying new kit in 2 weeks

Nice!

I personally always think the best option is to save up a bit more to get what you *really* want, even if it means not getting quite as many drums as you want, because you can always get...

Re: New kit idea

Snare buzz is all dependent on the tuning of the snare and/or toms.
Although I imagine a really crud or damaged snare wire could cause un-wanted buzzing.

And regarding sustain...
The wood,...

Re: New kit idea

Both kits are actually made in the exact same factory, believe it or not. They are very similar.
I've never had the opportunity to try them side by side, but I imagine they sound similar. Main...

Re: New kit idea

Dunno if you saw my post with my edit or not, but be sure to read it.

I really hate how Mapex is with pricing. It would be nice to be able to buy just a shell pack for cheaper.

Re: New kit idea

And thats Aus dollars ofcourse right?

Well your idea definately makes sense.
I'd say there is no point getting a kit with a snare if you already have a good one.
As the snares that come with...

Re: Feedback: Buying new kit in 2 weeks

Ugh, I'd personally *NEVER* ever recomend buying a PDP.
I've heard far too many horror stories with their hardware and shells.
And anyways, their sound is nothing special, they look very cheap,...

Re: Taye Vs Mapex

I personally do not like the Mapex Saturn. The kick on the Saturn is nice, but the toms just sound bleh in my opinion.

I would definately go with the Studio Maple. They are one of the best...

Re: From which pro drummer would you like lessons ?

Hmm, would be between...
Dave Weckl, Dom Famularo and Flo Mounier for me.
Out of all those, I'd probably chose Weckl though.

Re: Awful Overtones!

What sorta snare is that?
Looks like it has diecast hoops, is it a starclassic?
Eitherway it shouldint be going out of tune that fast.

Are you always tuning up? You should always tune up to get...
