Re: Tight Bass Head

An Evans EQ bass drum pillow comes with hook and loop fasteners that allow you to secure the pillow where you like it within your bass drum. You may want to try one of those. I own two of them.

Re: Tight Bass Head

There are numerous ways to setup and tune a bass drum. I am also a fan of tight tuning. I use several different head combinations and I sometimes use a pillow and a porthole. My choice depends on...

Re: Getting some bad vibrations.

My advice; Try another instrument! :)
Get some new resonant heads. Tune the top head to taste first before you install the new bottom heads. then tune the bottom heads untli you hear what you want...

Re: First Intermediate Kit

I suggest that you buy a used pro kit and skip the intermediate trap.

Re: I got some Fiberskyn heads for free.. the heck do I use them for?

The bass drum resonate Fiberskyn with the hole will sound great.
Use the other Foberskyn heads as batters and see how you like them. You can also use them as resonant heads. They will sound like...

Re: loose and hard lugs when tuning

This happens with the Drum Dial.
When I install a head I finger tighten and then I place my fist in the center of the drum and I push down firmly but not real hard. I torque the tension rods until...

Re: Opened for Ted Nugent last night....

The biggest abusers of animals in the USA are law enforcement agencies who routinely kill dogs while serving No Knock warrants. Don't believe me, Google the data.
Ted is just a man who legally hunts...

Re: Club date or brooklyn?

Well, I just had to chime in on this one.
As Bo said, defiantly apples and oranges.
That being said, What sound is in your heart?
Both kits sound great. I always thought that the Brooklyn kits...

Re: Jazz players - did we get this right?

I played the vid on my 700 watt system.
Both kits sounded awesome!
I tune my 65 Slingerland kit with the 18" BD very much like the first kit in your vid.
Great drums, and a great job presenting...

Re: what's the effect of central lugs on the sound

Gaskets can be desirable and undesirable depending on the circumstances.
Experimentation is the key. I prefer center lug drums without gaskets.

Re: Drum Dial tuning

Cool, take your time, relax and have fun while you experiment and learn. Drum tuning is an art that is just as important as learning chops, etc.

Re: Drum Dial tuning

Watch all of the Bob Gatzen YouTube videos that explain drum tuning at least 5 times. That will keep you busy for a while but you will learn great things.
Tune your drums from the videos that you...

Re: what's the effect of central lugs on the sound

As an owner of a 2012 Ludwig Club Date SE kit I can assure you that center mounted lugs aren't a problem. This is just something old that was made new again.
The drums sound awesome!

Re: Help Choosing A Bop Kit

I have owned a Sonor Safari kit with a 16" BD and it served me well. I currently own a Mapex Saturn Manhattan with a 14"x18" BD and it is awesome! In my opinion the 18" BD is the best size for a Bop...

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

Les, you are cracking me up right now. I just got home from working all day in this heat and I needed to smile.
No one who owns the CDSE or the Signet kits has complained about the spurs.
I...

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

Yes Neal, the spurs are perfectly adequate for the drum. I have played many an outdoor gig with my CD kit where I kicked the crap out of the BD. The drum has never wavered.

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

63888Sorry, the spurs from the CD kits are from the Accent kits and not the Epic kits.

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

They are not the same. The Epic kits have the same spurs as the CD kits as far as I can tell from photos.

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

Until recently, before I realized that I could turn the spurs around for folding, I simply put them in my pedal bag. I would unzip the pedal bag and everything that I needed to setup the bass drum...

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

Les, the spurs really aren't that big of a deal. It is obvious that the new ClubDate kits were designed as a knockoff of the originals from the 60's. The people in the orient who put the project...

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

The main advantage to the ClubDate kit is the weight. Everything on the kit is light. That is why I kept the stock spurs. I simply turn them around in the mount and I can fold them.
It really...

Re: Ludwig Club Date for $499

The Atlas anchor uses an Atlas Mount that is designed to be a lug for one tension rod.
Where would you screw the tension rod for the batter side?
