Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Here are the final results. My dad couldn't/still can't believe it! It's far from perfect but it's exactly what I expected it to be, a player's kit. He's going to be taking over the project from here...

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

All the lugs and mounts have finally been added to the shells! Will post pics of the entire kit all set up once I get the skins.

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

**Update**

I encountered another problem...

The 12" lug spacing won't fit the beavertail lugs I had intended to use, and I don't have enough B&B lugs for it.

I'm thinking about using the...

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Thank you! To be honest, this is my first time restoring an old kit. I'm just following what I found on this website: http://vintagedrumguide.com/how_to_vintage_snare.html

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Well, 4 hours or so later and the lugs are done.

I basically only used Brasso on the lugs that didn't have any green-ish grime on them, and a bit of CLR prior to the Brasso on the lugs that were...

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Definitely will post a video once it's all finished! And the only bearing edge that could use some work is the floor tom's reso bearing edge, but I'm going to leave it be for now and see how it...

Re: I just acquired this 1950 Gretsch Bop Kit

Wow. That's all I can say. Congrats, you scored yourself a real looker! I've got a WMP 3-ply Gretsch snare shell just like the one that comes with your kit, can't wait to finish restoring it.

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Your Rogers kit is stunning! Congrats brother.

And I just looked up a video demo of that rubbing compound and it looks like just what I need, thank you! I'd try to wet sand them but I don't think...

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

This is more what I was leaning towards. Some of the wrap at bottom of the floor tom is missing (a chunk about 3x3" wide) and the inside of the shell is in pretty rough condition so that's the only...

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Update: I've encountered a problem. I ordered some shiny Holiday lugs for the floor tom and the Holiday lugs won't fit... Only the B&B lugs will fit.

So that leaves me with two options:

1)...

That's quite the project you've got going there. Looks good!

Here are a couple pics of the lugs I'm expecting in the mail.

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

Nope, there isn't any delamination so I guess I'll leave it alone. I probably won't be able to sand/repaint the floor tom either since it's getting way too cold to work in my shed. My dad's got a...

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration

The paper tag is missing in the bass drum and are present in the toms, but were painted over (grrrr). I do plan on putting beavertail lugs on the entire kit, the only drums with all b&b lugs was the...

Rogers Holiday restoration

Hi all, I recently purchased an old Rogers Holiday kit in semi-rough shape in the hopes of restoring it to a player's kit. My dad used to have this exact kit in this same color when he was a teenager...

Question about vintage Gretsch lugs/back plates

Hi DW, I need your help again. I purchased a late 50's/early 60's 3-ply Gretsch snare shell recently and now I'm looking for matching double-ended lugs of that era. I've been scouring eBay quite a...
