Re: Give Bermuda Some!

cool.
and really.....816 cymbals?!! that is about 1 tonne of bronze.
that has to be the record, outside of a cymbal manufacturer. Maybe Terry Bozzio has that many?

Re: The modern history of the drumset

Good for you to devote so much time and energy to this. Keep it going.

I was not drumming in the 70's but I have always been curious what led into (and out of) ' the concert tom era'.

Re: "You're a drummer? Oh can you play..."

from Wiki:

Ron Wilson's drum riff on "Wipe Out" was so striking that "the yardstick for every aspiring young drummer in the early 60s was to be able to play a drum solo called 'Wipe Out'.The...

Re: removing drum wraps for staining

I just did it for a kit, dead easy by this guys method, if your wrap comes off. Go slow with a good putty knife.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lxeWqPp3ZQ

If using a cheaper kit for this, its...

Re: Is live music dead?

I think its about consideration for others. There's plenty of research on 2nd-hand smoke, and extra info on a menu or at the grocery store doesn't sound bad to me (we don't have that where I live)....

Re: What Snare did Joey Jordison use in 1999-2000 ?

A 6 lug steel one.
Never saw a drummer get their hair to wave in a circle at the same rhythm as their playing.

Re: Is live music dead?

I had no idea. Why a license to dance?
What would Gypsies or any other free-dancinf culture say to that...having to have a license to dance?!

Re: Is live music dead?

How so? I'm not getting you
Smoking is a public health problem, to those who smoke and not. But you have a right to smoke as long as it does not affect other people.

Second thing is not so much...

Re: Is live music dead?

Well I was all for ridding clubs and public places of smoking. I understand people want or need to smoke, but do it in your own space.

Smoking is not killing it. We have grown a society that wants...

Re: Real Life Whiplash

Yuk, Fireplace or campfire.
Cut my finger on a wing nut, just before the 1st song at a gig last summer. Started to play, looked down to spatter drops on the batter, they are still there.
But I...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

The total weight of the shell alone will be about 4 lbs ( or 1.86 kg) assuming a density for stainless steel of 8 g/cc
Not as heavy as I thought, but with lugs and rims will add up.
i'm sure you...

Re: Has anyone read the book "The Wrecking Crew"?

...as the story goes, so was Paul Simon, who went down there to get a black sound/groove.

the wonderful thing of music, no visuals, you make up your own.

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Interesting, let us know how it goes, pics and all.
I can imagine at 9.5 mm thick it will be quite heavy and not much ring or resonance, for sure very unique.

Re: Advice please?

Keep it simple. As Steve Jordan said: "Simple doesn't have to mean stupid".

Be able to listen. Forget about fills, and being showy.
Bring your own snare, pedal or even cymbals, if that helps you...

Re: Fantastic Peter Erskine video

Very moving piece.... love his spirit and temperament.
It the Buddha were a drummer, he could very well be Peter Erskine.

Damn he was a cute kid at 7 on those drums too!

I can't exactly picture what you're saying, so some pics may help.
But on the reso, tighten to the same tension, or in other words the same tone at each lug (tap one inch in from the lug to hear...

Re: George Way Drum Co. ?

Nice sounding and looking set. To my knowledge these drums are now made in southern British Columbia.
Good to see George Way's name live on, and labelled on a drum kit. He was an innovator, and his...

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

I think you're relying very heavily on your 'sincerity meter', which can't be quantified.
How can you tell how sincere a person is? How do you truly know them when all you get is a record or a stage...

Re: My Signets and the gong

Signets now? - they sound nice just wish Ludwig had chosen a wider selection of wraps.
Are there any parts for the gong in the Steely Dan cover band? I think in the intro of 'Josie' you could use...

Re: Yamaha drum kit, need advice.

its an older vintage club custom. those drums will clean up fine. dirty drums are a good 'flaw' to dicker down the price.
i think with those cymbals and stands you are good to start, but would not...

$500 eh? damn, sorry to hear that. too bad for you. a little research before buying always helps. my experience buying used old drums is if the deal seems too good to be true.....it likely is.

Re: Yamaha drum kit, need advice.

they are awfully dirty, uncared for, but they look structurally sound. where i live that would be about $250 - 300 max.
