Re: Who does this, really?

It takes me two minutes to unbag a four piece kit. I don't see what the big hassle is with using bags. Just my .02.

Re: When soundmen attack

Whenever I play a new venue, I'm prepared to swap out the reso if needed. I've learned to get a good sound with either reso head anyway.

Re: Great car for a drummer

The BMW 5 series cars have tons of room. I have an '84 528e, and a '92 525i. Bass drums, as long as they're not 18" deep, fit through the back doors. Trunks have tons of room.

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

I know Ludwig updated their new (P33) butt plates, but there are a few flaws while doing so. They should have kept the mounting hole spacing the same, so that you could swap it out with the P32....

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

I use a stubby screwdiver, as it is way easier to handle, and alot less likely to slip. I know this isn't the answer you want, just trying to help a bit.

Re: acrylic timbales?

I've made some timbales from spun-fiberglass Blaemire shells. This one pictured is a 3x12 original Blaemire cutoff piece. It definitely is more timbale sounding than concert tom sounding.

Re: Am I the only one here that hated the Kick Port?

Tried it on my 14x24 Blaemire bass drum, absolutely killed the sound. I ended up putting it on a reso head for a PDP kit that I picked up for my nephew, The previous owner had butchered the hole, and...

Looking forward to finally meeting you in Chicago this year. I've always admired your drums Francois!

Edit: Oh, BTW, yes, this drum is sweet!

Re: Jim Fernandez

Great story and pics Jim! There is definitely a drumming history in your family, and it looks like it will continue to carry on. Good stuff!

Re: I can't hear my bass drum when playing live

I always make sure that the guitarist's and bassist's amps are forward a bit, so that the speaker is slightly in front of my ear level. This always helps so that I can hear, and feel, my bass drum.

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Thanks for the write-up and review taiko. When I saw the kit at NAMM, I loved the sizes, and size of lugs they used. I have a similar sized Blaemire kit that I use for low-volume gigs/rehearsals....

Re: Paul Simon and Sting

I saw this show at the Forum in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago, and agree 100% with 8Mile. I've seen Vinnie with Sting several times before, but had never seen Paul Simon, or Oblon on drums. Very...

Re: JARRAH 14x6.5

Really nice drum! I used to own a Jarrah ply Brady snare, and it was hands down the best wood snare I ever owned. Of course, that's back when I used to play wooden drums. ;-p

Re: Big Ludwigs Incoming

You can try the (DW) method of venting the reso head. I picked up a 1/2" hole punch and add a few holes till it feels right. Two holes in the 20" head, and four holes in the 22" and 24" heads. You...

Re: Drummerworld NAMM 2014 meet up

This is a great idea. Ronn Dunnett shared a space with Crescent cymbals and Joyful Noise, seems to work out great for them.

BTW, had a great time at the show this year. Sorry I didn't meet up on...

Re: Big Ludwigs Incoming

If it is a Black Panther finish, try to take a peek underneath the wrap. Ludwig would sometimes wrap right over some of their slower selling Mod finishes, like Citrus Mod.

Re: Ludwig strainer sucks

DW member "skitch" sells the retroplate.

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/member.php?u=2831

Another option is to use the R4L that Ronn Dunnett sells. I have the regular R4 on a couple snares...

Re: $300 Black Beauty?

That's a P33 butt plate, which I don't know why they started using on newer Ludwig snares.

Re: Club Date Make Over

To the OP, good job on the conversion, she's a fine player now.

As far as member "tamadrm" is concerned, he is a wealth of knowledge on this forum, especially when it comes to vintage. It's funny,...
