Re: FYI : Cheap CAMCO kit

Agreed, a very nice kit for $300. If it didn't have a badge on it would anybody know?

Complete Camco's are rare on used market. One Oaklawn kit came by where I live a year or so ago for $1500, I...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

the PDP, many threads on here will say why, try a search on "PDP concept" for opinions.

But for $1000 you might get into Gretsch Renown territory too?

Re: 15" x 8" snare - now sorted - video - 4 tunings.

Interesting sounds. That 15 size is not really my cup of tea. I much prefer all your 14 inch snare sounds to that particular one.

Now...the bass drum sound...was to DIE for! What bass drum...

Re: I took a hearing test...

Very interesting. Am guessing then a word like 'ketchup' or 'catch' is quiet washed out audibly for those with tinnitus.

I suspect in some cases the ear is a bit like other organs (say lungs or...

Gretsch snare sleuthing?

But any furtehr ideas? Brass, Alu? Did Gretsch ever do steel in that time period?

Re: Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

Folks.... as I read the first line in the OP - he HAS been recording himself, and that's what he does not like. The sound of himself.

I first suggest a break if anything.

Re: using snare of different material than shellpack

Why not spend an afternoon with your kit, tuning up/down and recording and get it to sound 'right'? It's not the drums. You can especially play around with snare tuning most which have a high tuning...

Re: Hi hat cymbal seat?

when cymbals are level, screw out, there is chance of air lock - the 2 cymbals come together symmetrically and pocket of air trapped in there, reducing 'chick'

when you move the screw in, it...

Re: Sloppy fills

While we're on topic, does anybody here do a fill for more than one bar? More than two bars?

Re: Sloppy fills

Great statement. I think best to remain positive, and ya to learn from somebody who is not doing it right just as much as soembody who really is doing it well.

As for other bandmates, friends ,...

Re: 1971 Ludwig Black Panther kit

I like the Black Panther finish......very all-business, straight and modest. If I had $800 I'd go for it, if you really want it. 1971 is a great year too.

Re: The worst gig of my life

These threads can be really revealing social experiments. Some of the criticisms come like tides.
Drummingman, just curious of your avatar. You play in church bands, or the cross has other meanings?...

Re: Advice on Vintage Ludwig Player's kit

If ignorant seller undervalues his snare, drums whatever on his listing price, yes he/she pays for their ignorance. One 'informed' buyer should not go there and ask for even less. If seller asks fair...

Re: Advice on Vintage Ludwig Player's kit

This whole story/approach sounds totally unethical to me. You took advantage of a situation, a 'super nice guy' and then ...get this, were even a little peeved that you gave him the $400 because...

Re: Peter Erskine is on the move... again

But one should never buy for that reason. If a drummer is influenced by what Peters plays fine, that is their choice, but says nothing of an endorser/drummer.

Re: Wish me luck - could this be my next band?

Get your brushes Madge.
They HAVE to do 'In the Mood'. Maybe you can get them to give you a Gene Krupa style solo (what song is that Sing Sing?).
