Re: Small and easy to transport drum kit

20" x 12" is a great size. Certainly something I prefer to any 18" bass drum. If not especially well designed, they can be a little one dimensional compared to a 14" deep drum if the fundamental...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I've come across that so many times, I've lost count. Of course, it shouldn't be like that in a perfect world, but a perfect world doesn't exist.

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

The simple answer is - the one you can't find :)

Really, there's no such thing as a default "most difficult" musician to find. To get a quality player of any discipline is difficult enough.

Re: Zoom q3hd help

Are there no recorded files present when you launch handy share? I work on a Mac. Can't help you with PC fault finding. I do know that formatting the SD card is a vital step to functionality.

Re: Better after time off?

Of course, I can't speak from a position of dedicated practicing like you Jeff, but in many areas of endeavour requiring concentration, there's something about a break that delivers fresh imputes &...

Re: Roger Taylor - QUEEN

I enjoyed that Ian. I suppose if I was so presumptuous to believe I have a "trademark" to my groove, it's actually the reverse of Roger's. I tend to open the hi hat by default at the same time as...

Re: Solid shell snare?

I can't help you on specific years of Radio King production changes, etc, but I can give you some very general guidance.

1st up is to pretty much ignore the term "solid". In isolation, it's close...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

The judges were referring to clearance between the underside of the hoop, & the top of the lugs. The contention being that a very worn head may mean there's no longer enough tension adjustment to...

Re: castle drum co?

Not wishing to derail this thread, can you kindly transfer (copy/paste) your question to a new post on the snare drum olympics thread, & I'll answer it in detail there :)

Re: Mary O- Update

It's ok Mary, the place is already full of 'em!!!!

Great to have you back here Mary :) It doesn't matter if you're a gobist or bin basher, you're super welcome, & I know many are interested in...

Re: castle drum co?

I sighted the clearance issue simply because the Snare Drum Olympics judges highlighted it, & the same criticism was levelled at our drum. I know in our case the criticism is unfounded, & all I can...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

It's a pity subsequent posts were deleted, as they were all of strong value. For the sake of completeness, I'll repeat my deleted post;

1st up, thank you for your review Jon, & subsequent...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Daisy, it really troubles me that you believe your experiences mean it's not possible to be in a band on equal terms, or there will always be unwelcome consideration paid in respect to your gender. ...

Re: Simon Phillips talks 'bout open handed, dynamics, big sound and recording :)

Weird (for me) that you should highlight that Jeff, because playing bass drum under a tom fill is something I hardly ever do by default. Perhaps I picked up more from Simon early on than I realised.

Re: Let's talk about THIS Vinnie video

Non whatsoever. There's thought & structure there for sure, but I'm guessing it's a personal improv' based on whatever was in Vinnie's head at the time. I'm not sure that examination of the...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I use girl in the singular in a completely different way to girls in the plural. "A night out with the girls" in no way has a derogatory aspect to it, whereas to use "girl drummers" as a collective...

Re: Let's talk about THIS Vinnie video

Do you think the fact he's presenting in the premier educational environment means he decided to pull out a higher degree of "clever" than would normally be the case?

Re: castle drum co?

This may or may not be of some help. With respect to the comment about lug/hoop clearance, I assume David's done his calculations on that. I know we have, & the same comment was levelled at our...

Re: 22x20 kick playability

I know it's not your main enquiry, but I can't help but reply to this point. You can tune most 22" drums to sound almost like a 24", but it's depth has very little to do with that. Unless the drum...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

Thanks guys :) My temporary frustration for being marked down on non issues is more than tempered by the value in the feedback. It's so easy to get too close to things, & assume that what to me is...

Re: Ok, do your worst ;)

Thanks guys :) Yes, I am harsh on myself, & no, I don't do it to attract ego stroking praise. You see, I spend most of my professional drumming life around players who really can play, & I mean...

2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

Well, we entered a drum in this competition for the first time. Must admit, I didn't have high expectations, but to my surprise, we came joint 3rd overall & second in our category (the biggest...

Re: Ok, do your worst ;)

"Chortle" - that won't be happening anytime soon my Nordic friend!

FFS don't tell David that. He's a sensitive soul ;) I strongly suspect you've based your decision on the relative impossibility...
