Re: Massive OCD

Sorry to break it to you but you probably don't have OCD. You're just fussy.

OCD is an anxiety disorder. The anxiety can be so overwhelming that it disrupts your everyday life. It usually has...

Do you experience with overwhelming anxiety when you're adjusting your kit?

Re: I'm not getting this.

I've had my run-ins with the moderators here over the years, that's for sure.

I've never felt unfairly treated and each time it's happened it's been a fair and reasonable enforcement of the rules....

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Ah, just don't worry your pretty little head about that book, my darling.

*ducks*

I read the article. Yes. I'm with you. If I wore a monocle, it would have popped out.

Re: Novice Question

There is a huge amount of post-processing on Enter Sandman. No drums will actually ever sound like that in the room.

Re: Novice Question

I would hang onto the drums you have and learn to get the best out of them.

Worrying about how drums sound on YouTube videos and how they compare to your kit now is less important than learning to...

Re: Novice Question

It might have something to do with the tuning but it's likely a combination of tuning, head choice and (most importantly) the recording and post-production effects.

A lot of the more...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

There is something deeply unsettling about that particular ensemble. I like it, it reminds me in tonality of some of King Crimson's 'Lizard' album - the trumpet tones are near-enough identical. ...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

In all honesty, there is a difference between 'sex' and 'gender'. 'Sex' refers to genetic predisposition - of which there are plenty of examples of intersex occurrences. 'Gender' is to do with...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

This is an interesting thread, to say the least.

I'd like to also point out the attitudes I've seen towards transgendered individuals as being discriminatory and entirely unfounded. I had a...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Madge, I remembered a few things today that are examples of 'everyday sexism'.

i) A sign saying 'Please wash up after yourself: I'm not your mother'.

Hmmm. Light-hearted but...

ii) The...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Wow. Now that is uncalled for, unwarranted and inappropriate.

Unfortunately I see a lot of sexism within music. One visit to my local dive bar will show you this...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

There have been a few articles recently about the 'loudness war' and how it's actually a dying trend. In the last couple of years Apple have been promoting a mastering standard on iTunes that...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

I disagree on the headphones there James but I'll explain why.

Yes, I'm with you that with inherently 'visceral' music that you lose something in the physicality of it. You do, however, gain...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

There are a few bands that I used to listen to when I was but a wee bairn that I cannot stand now. In the last few years my listening tastes have significantly widened. My collection of music...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

Listening conditions for some may have become less ideal because of the levels of noise pollution that is around with traffic, etc but the technology has definitely improved. Modern playback systems...
