Re: Writing with the weak hand?

I was doing drum exercises to strengthen my left hand and it did get much stronger. At the time, I was also painting murals on walls, and used my left hand because it had easier access to certain...

Re: am I the last one to know about this technique for playing lower volume on cymbals?

Back to the lowering of the volume problem.

On Saturday I was playing in my small room with some people. I have been choking the sticks and trying to play at a very low volumes.

I...

Re: extreme tom angles and snare tilt

Buddy Rich had the snare higher, and he brought the side of the snare near him higher by angling it downward like that. I used to do that as well, mostly because the snare stands did not go high...

Re: Tuning

I usually start with the floor tom to try to get the lowest sound I can without it buzzing and without a lot of ringing. I have two kits, one is a Pearl MCX Masters with three overhead toms and and...

Re: extreme tom angles and snare tilt

He has the toms over on his extreme left, and the snare is down extremely low. It almost looks to me like he he did not have the time to finish setting up. But, as stated before, he does a good...

Re: 24" bass drum - 10" main snare, surely not?

The kit sounds great, I just can not get used to the sound of small snare drums, even the sound of a 13" sometimes bothers me. Perhaps, there is some kind of music where this will sound good....

Re: Snare drum problem?

Perhaps, I am out of touch with things, but I know of the snare strings, and other things similar to them, and I am also familiar with the nylon straps. I have not heard of anyone using cloth. I...

Re: Bass drum makes windows vibrate

Take a piece of plexiglass, and if you can afford it, lexan (polycarbonite) instead. If you can, do not place the sheet of plexiglass/ lexan parallel, place it on a slight angle to the glass. You...

Re: Dealing with spine problems - experiences, advice

I have 7 discs that are ruptured now. I have to take it really easy. When I move a drum kit around I make the packages as light as possible, take my time and make many trips. I use a folding hand...

Re: Practice to Mastery?

With the amount of material out as well as the accessibility to the material in written or sound form, it is impossible to know it all. Therefore, another approach may be used and borrowed from...

Re: Great car for a drummer

My last car was a 2005 Honda Civic. I drive a lot between DC and NJ in the USA. I drive a lot and I like a car to handle like a car instead of a truck, or SUV.

While I was down in DC right...

Re: Kevlar snare shells?

I agree with what Bermuda said below about Kevlar sounding like Carbon fiber. They are both to be used as reinforcement inside a polymer.

There is this relationship that I remember that is way of...

The link below is the son emulating the father who used a single pedal. Because the double pedal was not invented at that time and the Father had the fastest right foot on the planet to date, and...

Re: Drummer quiz: What kind of drummer are you?

Ok, what is it that prevents me from taking the survey? Could it be that I am in New Jersey? Perhaps, my eyes are too close together? Maybe, they are just too far apart?

Jim, I did not see your post while I was writing mine, so that although it appears that I was copying what you said about the microphones, it was not intentional.

Re: Drums suck!

I hear the difference on a snare, of course with the snares off, and also on my 10, and 12 inch toms, but I can not hear the difference in my 13 tom and 16 floor and bass drum.
