Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Andy am guessing you're in a cover band... right? What tune(s) would call for wind chimes?
Do you not ever think..."ahh sod it, maybe I can leave those home today"?

Re: Tuning Drums for Audition

The sound behind the kit can be very deceptive. Record your drums, it helps immensely to hear how they sound 'out there'. Experiment with tunings and record. Results will depend on your room, just as...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I have over past 3 years rescued and refurbished 6 orphan 60's Slingerland drums to make 2 sets. One is 12-16-20 (unmatched) and another 13-16-22 (matched). These drums are totally 'thee sound' I...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

As demonstrated by many a guitar player.....Johnny Cash, John Lennon, John Fogerty....in fact... all John's knew this and played with this effect.

Re: Blues Drum Kit

funky kit indeed, it's setup kind of strange too, the snare seems far more forward than hats.
I've been listening to a lot of old Howlin Wolf and Elmore James lately, and I don't hear much more than...

Re: Drummer Mike Johnston Pioneers Online Drum Teaching

Because you already have hundreds of them? lol (just kidding really).

I find Mike to be an exceptionally positive person. It is refreshing.

Re: Snare Drum Video Test - Rogers Dynasonic, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Sensitone

Wow nice chops. Wish I could roll like that.
They are all nice, sound wise the Dynasonic had the best definition, but I liked the more un-tamed open character of the Sensitone. So best for my taste...

Re: 3 piece for Metal (is it good enough)?

I quite like the look of 3 piece kit. Its very open, shows the drummer, and has a beautiful, sensible simplicity.

Check out Matt's fancy new snare dampener, the black thing ;)

I totally agree,...

Re: Ludwig Brass Supra

I'd say $400 is not a bad price based on condition.
NOB - nickel on brass

the flaking of chrome doesn't happen on all LM Ludalloy snares.

lug splay - ya agree it's not pretty but the real...

Re: Replace Sonor bass spurs with different brand?

Ya I'd have to say that's nitpicking. But if you want to do it, they're your drums.
Its mostly just about drilling a few new holes and exposing some old ones.

Re: RIP Dave Ratajczak

I had just watched that a couple months ago. Excellent story, film.
The Vimeo link posted didn't really refer us to news of his passing:

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

haha, fair enough, but as somebody on here once said, after the count-in, song starts, "the whole band keeps time". That means you guitarists too.

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

Interesting. Were that me with all that in my mind ...I'd freeze with doubt.

I simply sit there and inside bubble with excitement, can't wait for it all to begin...but outside have a cool facade....

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

I'm guessing he referred to volume? Of 2 instruments in a band, guitar and drums seem to compete most in terms of volume (they need not, but do in many cases). Many guitarists turn up to combat that....

Re: Supra > Acro

My experience with these 2 snares is exactly how you describe. I've had both (incl. 2 diff Acros), but found that the Supra is a step up in the many ways you describe. I use it all the time, so easy...

Re: Thoughts On Phil Collins??

Excellent drummer and great songwriter. While I kind of put him in the pigeon hole of prog rock drummers (say with Bruford, Mike giles) it's interesting how his original influences are in Motown.

Re: complete beginner; problem with bass drum technique

with heel up you can learn to get and control the rebound, in other words to not always ' bury the beater'. it will all take plenty of practice on your leg foot coordination.

Re: How big of a difference do drum heads make?

I too would suggest as well that you experiment with the current heads before buying new ones. Yes new heads will have it sound better than stock heads, IF tuned well.

But don't get down on...

Re: John Bonham Snare on the bay

Didn't Grohl just buy a JB snare for $85,000?
Seeing as this belonged to the 'swirl' kit, and never gigged, not surprised it looks so mint and unused.
