Re: Airplane travel with gear

Thanks for the reply, I'll be sure to pass the link off to my friend.
What I am more worried about is if they will let him travel with hand luggage AND the cymbal: I'm not sure how strict they are...

Airplane travel with gear

Hey guys,

So a friend of mine, currently on vacation in the US, has agreed to do me the favour of bringing me back a cymbal when he returns from vacation, because here (in Peru) there is very...

Re: Floor Toms - 14" vs 16" - Yamaha Players?

Considering the size of the kick and the tom, you'd have to go with a 16", but my personal preference still goes to the 14" nicely tuned, not too low, not too high. I hope you get to buy the kit,...

Re: I had to have it!

I've got clear Emperors on my DWs and they sound great!! Warm and punchy :-) not too familiar with other heads (I tend not to experiment much once I find "my" sound) so I can't be much more help,...

Re: I had to have it!

^^^ + 1 On this: dark hardware over light finish and the contrary look absolutely stunning. That kit looks wonderful!! Congrats on the deal, I bet those floor toms sound so punchy!! Short, fat toms...

Re: Drumming Nightmare

Sorry about that, although I do agree with DrumEatDrum, it tends to happen, and most of the time all you can really do is cope with what you have, and try to dissipate negative thoughts about the...

Double stroke technique by Thomas Pridgen: wrist rotations?...

Hi girls and guys,

I happened to stumble upon this video earlier today, and something struck me, since I had never really paid attention to Pridgen's technique:

Re: Unreal Weckl Footage...

Agreed, but more than the cymbal itself, its his riding skills that blow my mind. He makes it seem effortless, and yet he is playing at quite a fast pace.
Nevertheless, that cymbal sounds amazing:...

Re: Dave Brubeck's "Take 5" - keeping time

Thanks for tips guys. I figured I'd just listen to the song and play along to it with my band until we all manage to internalize the rhythm.

I started off doing this, but ended up counting...

Dave Brubeck's "Take 5" - keeping time

Hi everyone, (not sure where to post this)

My band has recently decided to incorporate Brubeck's Take 5 into our repertoire, and I'm having a hard time (no puns intended) keeping time; any...

Re: Stolen DW Collectors in Black Ice!! Be aware!

Good idea. As long as eBay has the seller's info, and is willing to look into this case, you might be on the right track to get the drums back (if they turn out being yours). However, try not to...

Re: Stolen DW Collectors in Black Ice!! Be aware!

That's a terrible story man, I'm really sad to hear :-( And I agree with what's been said before, having a 13" tom is strange enough, if you have a hunch that it is your kit, by all means do what you...

Re: Smaller sized toms?

I agree. I feel they do have a boomy sound if tuned right and with decent heads. Mine aren't very shallow, I'm not sure of the depths but they look pretty squared to me. I'm actually using a 16"...

Re: Smaller sized toms?

+1 !!
That's what I feel as well, only for some reason I really enjoy my 8" tom, it sounds incredible. I tried setting my kit up with the 10" 12" 16" instead of 8" 10" 14" and I felt the drums were...

Re: Smaller sized toms?

I'm curious, how do you tune your drums, rather high or low ? And what type of music to you play? :-)

Smaller sized toms?

I'm just curious, I made a few searches on the forum and found nothing on the subject so, who here enjoys smaller sized toms?
I play my kit in a 5 pc. 8" 10" racks and 14" floor + 14" snare...

Re: Looking for a snare drum for metal

I haven't heard either in person, but I bought my Black Panther Hammered Phosphor Bronze snare when I was in a metal band, because my maple snare just wouldn't cut. It's a great snare for really...

Re: Tom angles!!!!

This thread is pure gold, so to speak ! I'd actually like to try and play some of these kits just to see if I manage to reach to some of the cymbols and rack tams...

Re: What's your musical situation?

Great idea for a thread, I'm eager to see some of the responses :-)
I'm currently in one band, made of a guitarist, bassist, a flutist (transverse flute), a keyboardist and... well me. We play...

Re: If you could have it all - What would it be?

I'll add my .20 :

Maybe buy my neighbor's house, and make it a studio :) get top quality microphones and a good mixing table and soundproof it !

I've only had the opportunity of buying one...

Re: Playing with finesse

I have to second the OP here, Manu Katché is one of the drummers who, to me at least, plays with the most finesse. Just listen to his drumming on his solo albums Playground, Neighbourhood, and Third...

It's strange, sometimes I feel I'm going to play a great gig, but it ends up being not so good after all, but this time I really felt it was going to be bad or just plain boring, but it was actually...

Re: The joys of pop music

Yeah I was so much fun! Personally I didn't really know the songs either, except that they were basically as you said monotonous beats, and I thought it would be monotonous to play as well. The...
