Re: How do I get this weird sound? Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"

Congrats on the purchase Elliot, I know you'll find the SamplePad to be super-simple, and the best bank for the buck. Although it only plays mono samples, the sounds pan L-R for a stereo spread. So,...

Re: Groove and studio recording

Your description of the process implies that everyone comes in and records cold. Unless there's music provided, that's rarely (if ever) the case, and even then, there'd be sufficient run-throughs.

Re: What exactly do I have here?

The hoops and dual clip mounts tell me they're marching toms, but you're right, by that period, marching toms were typically cutaways. But with Ludwig, anything was possible, and special orders...

Re: What exactly do I have here?

If they're original, those are mid-late '80s marching toms, part of a set of quads or quints. Those die-cast hoops are classic, and used to be made in kit sizes.

Re: Tuning Drums for Audition

It's better to have the toms ring a bit, so tuning them a little higher usually works well. If you're already there, that's good. Most drummers who have to ask, aren't. :)

Re: Tuning Drums for Audition

As always, tuning depends largely on the genre. But a good rule of thumb for almost any style is, tune the kick and especially the toms higher than you think they should be, in order to better convey...

Re: new thread deleted. help?

As I said before, I think this discussion is good, to a point. I'm pretty sure we've gone past that point.

The rules have been re-explained a few times in a few ways for clarity, and anyone trying...

Re: Bass drops off an ipad??

Yes, but being the bass player, it won't be in the right spot, or in time, and it will be too loud.

Re: Bass drops off an ipad??

There are midi adapters for iPads, just connect a pad/multi-pad that has midi out - such as the Alesis PercPad for $99 - and you're all set.

Of course, it might be simpler to get the Alesis...

Re: new thread deleted. help?

Okay, once more, just for you.

A member may post an attachment of their song, or a link to a site with that song, and that's normally fine.

If there is a solicitation for that member's work...

Re: new thread deleted. help?

In this case, it helps reinforce a forum rule, and I think that discussion is good (though only to a point, which is rapidly approaching.)

Re: new thread deleted. help?

Bingo. Your link to your own product is soliciting, and that's why the post was deleted. I'll allow the link in your sig, for now, since it's not expressed in the way it is in the body of a post....

Re: The mediocre drum guru?

You may have experiences that they don't, and they can recognize that. Just because someone's been playing a short time doesn't mean they don't have some valuable perspectives. Sometimes the up &...

Re: The mediocre drum guru?

As long as you're perceived as better or more experienced than someone else, you will be a guru to them. People teach - and learn from - each other. A little mentoring goes a long way, and nobody...

Re: Copyright Infringement

The fact that the reach of Sirius (and the internet) isn't limited by state lines makes it even more interesting. :)

Re: Cracked shuffles

Yeah, some of the Elvis stuff had some guys playing straight while the drummer played closer to a shuffle. it's a feel you don't get by just swinging, or playing straight.

Re: Copyright Infringement

Go get'em Flo & Eddie, their exploits with the music business are well-documented. They've been the screwees more than once in the past.

Re: Cracked shuffles

I know exactly what you mean, I call it a nervous shuffle. Very prominent in the late '50s while rock was transitioning from swing & country.

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

Love them, and the Reggae thing is their shtick. They undoubtedly worked harder at consciously changing the style of those songs (and not just Led Zep, either) as opposed to changing them by virtue...

It's kind of a fine line.

It's perfectly acceptable to post audio or video of your playing in the appropriate section (Your Place > Your Playing.)

But when a "buy" link also appears with the...
